Obituary of Gesner Abner Clarke
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Gesner Abner Clarke, husband of the late Frances (nee Lee) Clarke, and the last surviving member of his immediate family, announce his passing on May 12, 2013 at the Mill Cove Nursing Home, where he was very compassionately and lovingly cared for by the staff. Gesner was born on Nov. 1, 1916 in New Canaan, to the late Charlie and Cora (nee Humphrey) Clarke. He is survived by his children: Jamie (Linda) and Melody; his grandchildren: Joey, Cody, Max, Valerie and Joel; his sisters-in-law: Gerry and Faye; and by several nieces, nephews and extended family members. Besides his parents and wife, Gesner was predeceased by his sisters: Hazel Thorne (Mont), Dorothy Corey (Blois), Leta Waugh (Theodore), and Doreen Thorne (Doug); and his brothers: Ralph (Muriel), Alvin and Myron. Gesner worked at Dehavilland Aircraft in Ontario, where he met Frances, and where their children were born. He always missed New Brunswick, so after his early retirement he returned. Even though he was no longer in the work force, he rarely spent an idle moment. He built houses, painted pictures and carved sculptures from wood, just to name a few of his accomplishments, and could turn his hand to anything he tried. Grampy especially enjoyed seeing and spending time with the grandchildren. Gesner was a very talented man and will be greatly missed by many people. The family will receive visitors at Sussex Select Community Funeral Home, 21 Aiton Road on Wednesday, May 15, 2013 from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm. The funeral service will be held at the Kierstead Mountain Baptist Church on Thursday, May 16, 2013 at 2:00 pm. Interment will be at the Kierstead Mountain Baptist Cemetery. Donations made to the Mill Cove Nursing Home or to a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family. On-line condolences are available at: www.sussexfh.com.
