Obituary of Pauline Clara MacAfee

It is with great sadness that the family of Pauline Clara MacAfee announces her passing, which occurred on Thursday, June 23, 2022 at the Sussex Health Centre in Sussex, NB. Born in Penobsquis, NB, on September 2, 1928, she was a daughter of the late Ralph and Doris (Secord) Davis.

            Pauline is survived by her children: Linda (Jim) Waugh of Douglas, NB, Candace (Jimmy Lizotte) MacAfee of Saint John, NB, Paula McDermott of Newtown, NB, and Jenny Robinson of Berwick, NB;

her brothers: Bill Davis of Moncton, NB, , and Allen (Joyce) Davis of Sussex, NB; her sister: Betty (George) Robinson of Trenton ,ON; her sister-in-law, Florence Davis of Brockville, ON; her grandchildren: Melissa (Peter Wedge) Dawe, Michael (Jessica Mills) Dawe, Eliza (Mitchell Tomilson) Dawe, Vanessa Dawe, Britta Garnett, Ashley (John) Phillips, Erika (Mackenzie Grant) McDermott, John-Michael (Laurel McLean) McDermott, Morgan Robinson, Luke Robinson, and Katie Robinson; her great-grandchildren: Jayden, Devon, Zachary, Eden, Allyson, Fisher, Petra, Suzannah, Andreas, and Sawyer; as well as several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Pauline is predeceased by her loving husband, Lew and her brothers, Eugene and Harold Davis; her sisters-in-law and their spouses: Eleanor and Homer Ruiter; Allison and Reg Sansom, and Margaret and Gerry Davis; and her sons-in-law: Mike McDermott and Dale Robinson.

Pauline loved to travel with Lew and tend to her flowers. Her favourite place to be was the farm in Berwick. She was a past member of the quilt guild and the Wesley United Church.

Pauline worked as a medical secretary for most of her working career. Her last job was a teacher assistant at the Lion Don Steeves School in Moncton.

Selflessly caring for others and love of family were foremost for Mom. She was devoted to Lew, their four daughters, 11 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.  Her home was the focal point for family gatherings.  We all looked forward to Christmas and other holiday gatherings where we were treated to one of her delicious meals of family favourites. There was always room for “one more” at her table. Any one visiting Pauline could be sure of her welcoming smile and a cup of tea.

Mom shared Dad’s love of the MacAfee homestead and life on the Millstream. This love was passed on to her children and grandchildren.  In their retirement years Mom and Dad left city life, restored the homestead and enjoyed all the beauty of the countryside.  She loved to work in her flower gardens and delighted in all that the fields and woodlands had to offer.  The days she and Dad packed a lunch and took a walk through the fields or woodlands or a drive along the country roads were cherished by her.

Mom always had a keen sense of humour and sharp wit.  We could always depend on Mom to be there for us and to provide encouragement when needed. She always had a pleasant word for everyone. When she was able to, she loved to go shopping and have lunch with one of her daughters.

The family wishes to thank the staff of both the Primrose Cottage and the Sussex Health Centre for their kind, compassionate, and consciencious care of Pauline.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex, NB (506-433-1176) from where visitation will take place on Wednesday, June 29th from 2-4 and 6-8pm in the Wallace Community Chapel.
