Don and I were course mates, troop leaders and Hussars together for years and years at B Sqn in Sussex. A peer, a mentor and a true friend, I am deeply saddened by his passing. Don could always make me laugh with his dry, witty humour. Even when we were standing in freezing rain with mud up to our knees behind a tank in some soggy swamp in Gagetown trying to take down the days orders, he would have that trademark happy go lucky smirk on his face. One of the best squadron mates and best guys I ever met in uniform. Call sign Papa Smurf will be truly missed. We are so sorry for your loss.

Doug, please accept both Robin's and my sympathy on Don's passing. Last time I served with Don was at 3 ASG; it was like being at home when I stopped down to his office. I was really envious when he got himself off to Afganistan; what a way to end his career. Don was always a professional soldier and a compassionate one; he was one of the "good guys" for sure. In June 1996, Don and I canoed down the Restigouche river during an exercise with the Tactics School at Base Gagetown. We enjoyed a good number of comfortable conversations - glad to have known him.

There are no words to convey my deep deep sadness at Don’s passing. He was a wonderful friend who was always there to help , to listen, to share his knowledge. I relied on him many times as did others and his talents always exceeded expectations whether building a shed or a deck. Always beautiful work. I know he had many more books to read, more electric panels to set up, more roads to travel but God had other plans and Don is at peace now. God bless you Don and Denise and all the people Don loved.
