Obituary of Etha Deborah Duke

Ginger was born in Barnesville, NB on April 15, 1920. She was the daughter of the late Burpee and Etha (Beatty) Kilpatrick and the wife of the late Frank Duke, who passed away in 2008. Ginger was raised on a farm on the border of Titusville and Upham. The family all worked hard; milking, haymaking and snow clearing but enjoyed life as well. Ginger attended Titusville school and St. Peter's Anglican Church in Upham. She left home at seventeen and was working at the Saint John Hospital when she took a clerical position with the Air Force at station #5 in Moncton. It was at a station dance where she met a Royal Air Force Sergeant named Frank and after dating for three months they were married on August 5, 1944. After the war they moved to England so Frank could resume his work. In 1957 they emigrated to Canada where Frank had a job in Toronto. But it was always their wish to return to New Brunswick and become part of the tourism industry, so in 1963 they purchased the Maples Bungalow Court in Sussex Corner and began their career hosting visitors to this wonderful part of Canada. Ginger is survived by her three children: Tony (Susan) of Falmouth NS, Maxine (Windsor Allaby) of Sussex, and Dale (Janet) of Whitby ON; her sister Freda (Mel Crawford) of Sussex Corner; her brother, Cecil (Kay) Kilpatrick of Sussex Corner; six grandchildren: Scott, Wanda, Heather, Sara, Andrew and Erin; and twelve great grandchildren. Mrs. Etha D. "Ginger" Duke of Sussex, passed away at the Kiwanis Nursing Home on March 30, 2012 at the age of 91. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her sisters: Muriel Steele, Bertha Lane, Hilda Goodwin, Dora Lawday and Mary Wagner and by her brothers: Clarence, Joe and Fred Kilpatrick. The family wishes to thank the staff of the Kiwanis Nursing Home in Sussex for the wonderful care Ginger received in the final years of her life. Arrangements have been entrusted to the compassionate care of Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex, (506-433-1176). A Celebration of Ginger's life will be held from Trinity Anglican Church on Wednesday, April 4, 2012 at 2:00 pm. The interment will take place at Trinity Cemetery. As an expression of sympathy donations made to the memorial of the donor's choice would be appreciated by the family.
