Obituary of John Dearman

Mr. John Dearman Sr. of Route 890 Newtown passed away at his residence on January 4, 2008 at the age of 70. Born in Windsor, NS on January 19, 1937. He was the son of the late Gordon William and Inez (Miller) Dearman and was the husband of the late Ann Elizabeth Dearman who passed away in 1997.

John was a retired mixer foreman with Mapleleaf Foods. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Sussex Branch #20 and the Adanac Club.

When John was 8 years old, he decided he was old enough to smoke. His father did not agree, so when John and his younger brother were caught smoking, his father deceided a punishment that fith the crime was appropriate. While Dave was forced to watch John's punishment was to smoke a cigar and inhale. His younger brother has a vivid memory of John alternating betweeen taking a puff on the cigar and throwing up in the chamber pot. The cure did not work for John smoked for most of his life, but never in front of his father until years later.

while hunting snipe with one of his brothers (without much success), John pointed his BB gun at his brother, a much larger target some distance away. John was a better shot than he thought because the pellet struck his target square on the end of the nose. Filled with remorse, (or was it fear), John pleaded with his brother "Please don't tell Mom" John knew that the punishement would be severe when his dad got home.  Together they concocted a story to explain the injured nose which worked because his parents never found out. Over 50 years later, John recalled the incident and thanked his brother for not "squeeling" and surely saving his life.

He never forgot what brotherly love was all about.

as children on memory we have of our Dad is when we went sliding but not on a slide we used a piece of plywood, so that all the children could fit on it at the same time.

Dad was a big man with a big heart. He loved his dog Clancy that kept him company for many years. He enjoyed spending his weekends up at his trailer with his buddies. His favorite pass time was reading westerns and watching the older movies on tv.

Dad will be sadly missed by all his family and friends.
