Russell Mitton

Obituary of Russell Mitton

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Russell Earl Mitton announce his sudden passing with his family by his side at the Sussex Health Centre on February 2, 2023 at the age of 69.

Born in Sussex on December 16, 1953; he was the son of the late Earl and Alice (Proctor) Mitton.

Russell was the most patient and kind person that you could ever meet. He had a love of the outdoors, his life was full of fishing, hunting, hiking, camping, gardening, picking fiddle heads and going for drives.

He loved his sports. Playing on many softball teams, weekly horse shoe games and bowling teams. He held the NB record for highest string (203) for 10 years. He looked forward to watching his beloved Maple Leafs and Blue Jays the most, but would watch anything on the sports channels. He was so proud that his children and grandchildren followed in his love of sports and he loved to go watch them play, rarely missing a game. He enjoyed anything that they were involved in.

Russell was a very hard working man in the mining and construction industry all of his life. He had once earned a certificate for working 12 years without any loss time. He made so many friends over the years, several of whom still met for coffee ("kindergarten") most mornings.

He was a simple man who asked for nothing and was happy just be home with his loving wife of 43 years, Allyson. She and their dogs, Shift and Fern, will miss him so much.

He will live on in the hearts of his wife, Allyson (Bubb) Mitton; his daughters: Sarah Madden and her husband Mike of Newtown and Jessi McGibbon and her husband Joel of Sussex Corner; his brother: Richard Mitton and his wife Eunice of Mechanic Settlement; his sister, Joanne Gregg and her husband Junior of Jeffries Corner; his grandchildren: Hailey, Nolan, Jordan and Jonah; his best friends: Andrew Stevens, Bill Habraken and Hayward Critchley; extended family members: Heather (Andrew) Stevens, Andrew (Jackie) Thompson; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Along with his parents, he is predeceased by his cousin and best friend, Clarence Buchanan.
