Louise "Pearl" Parlee Lockhart was born in the Head of Millstream on March 9, 1913, she was the daughter of the late Abram Large and Sarah (Goddard) Parlee and the wife of the late Eldon C. McDonald Lockhart who passed away in 1981. After graduating high school Pearl went to St Stephen with her sister Lulu to work at Ganong's Chocolate Factory in St. Stephen, they soon returned to Apohaqui where she worked at her father's store. Pearl and her husband Eldon were married in the Pas, MB and lived two years in the Northwest Territories on a trap line before they settled in Flin Flon, MB. In 1934 they started to raise their family. In August 1954 the family returned to Apohaqui, then settled in Bathurst in 1956 to pursue opportunities in the mining industry. Pearl was a God-fearing woman of generous spirit who left her door open to all. She was frugal, resourceful, enterprising and, even under trying circumstances, was loving and helpful to all. She worked diligently with her husband in the family businesses, keeping her vegetable garden and raising her children. She lived very modestly and supported evangelical ministries all over North America. Pearl wrote many poems and songs and had commissioned songwriters and musicians in Nashville to record some of them. Much-loved by her family, they will miss her cheerful and happy nature.
