Gladys Freeze

Obituary of Gladys Freeze

It is with great sadness that the family of Gladys Freeze announces her passing, which occurred on March 28, 2023 at the Sussex Health Centre. Born in Uigg, PEI, on December 18, 1928, she was a daughter of the Late Angus and Catherine (Lamont) MacLeod.

Gladys loved her Island home and the time spent as a child exploring with her brothers and sisters. After completing her training as a registered nurse, she provided care to patients in hospitals in several provinces across Canada before transitioning to work on the family farm in Penobsquis. Between time spent tending to dairy cows, chickens, gardening, and the occasional pig, Gladys welcomed visitors to the farm with gracious hospitality and hearty meals. In her retirement she found great joy in trips to Prince Edward Island, music, and watching her grandchildren grow.

Gladys is survived by her children: David (Tracy) Freeze and Catherine Freeze, both of Penobsquis; her grandchildren: Jacob (Hannah) Freeze, Hannah (Jeremy) Vincent, Samuel (Emily) Freeze, and John Freeze; her great-grandchildren: Fred and Ruth;  her sisters-in-law: Evangeline MacLeod and Hazel MacLeod; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, Gladys was predeceased by her husband, George; her brothers: David, Wesley, Ewen, John, Harry, and Kenneth and her sisters, Mary and Isabel.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex, NB (506-433-1176). A private family interment will take place at Pioneer Cemetery later in the spring. .
