I was so very sorry to hear of Marilyn's passing. A close cousin of my mother, Shirley, we have lost both girls within 12 months and life is a little less bright as a result.
When I was in grade 5, we moved home to Sussex and I was enrolled at Sussex Elementary. Marilyn was a teacher in a nearby classroom and helped me to adjust to a new school, my peers, and the move. I was always so grateful to have landed somewhere with family in the building and was so appreciative of her.
I am sending my most sincere condolences to Kevan, Becca and Kate as you navigate this new existence and reality. I read once that grief is proof that love was there and that if we lean into and embrace our grief, the love we had never dies. Our moms put all of their love into us and we will perpetuate and carry it for the rest of our earthly time. I am so sorry for this sad time and will keep you in my thoughts and prayers ❤

As I sat here today and took the time to reflect on many memories I have of my childhood, Marilyn was part of it along with Kate, Becca and Kevan.
We started off as next door neighbours on Cedar Avenue. They welcomed us when we arrived in NB. Marilyn had an open door policy. There were even times where my parents were stuck with no sitter for the nights there were military functions. Not a problem! Marilyn took my sister and I in, and we would spend many nights there. I remember one time staying with them and they had family night. It was popcorn and a movie in the basement. It was nice to feel included as family member. We used to even tag along and go to church with her and the girls too.
Marilyn was also my sister’s grade 5 teacher. My sister had a really tough time learning and grasping certain subjects. Marilyn had a way of honing in on what Sherry required to comprehend and she worked with her, encouraged her and helped her progress. That was just who she was, a great teacher who learned what each student needed to understand.
As time would have it, paths changed, we moved away, became distant friends and drifted apart. However, her faith and her commitment to enriching the lives of her students never wavered. Her devotion to community was also very strong which I see a lot of in Kate.

I am so happy that we were able to see each other at least once a year at our cousin's reunion and catch up on what was going on in our lives and our families'. This past October, at our reunion, Marilyn was so proud to show us all updated photos of her girls and grandchildren.
Marilyn also quilt a quilt for my mother to give to my grandson, Owen, when he was born. Of course, the quilt was beautiful and Mom was so happy that Marilyn could help her with this project.
