Obituary of Robert Hawthorne
It is with heavy hearts that the family of the late Robert Blair Hawthorne announce his passing on Thursday, February 8, 2024 at his home in Picadilly, NB. Surrounded by his family. Born in Penobsquis, NB on October 16, 1942, he was a son of the late Andrew and Dorothy (Holmes) Hawthorne.
Bob loved life, he enjoyed being with people and chatting up a storm, even to a complete stranger, he could carry on a conversation for hours. Always the consummate joker and story teller, his sense of humour knew no bounds. Bob also loved to dance and boy could he ever cover the dance floor. Bob was also the best water witcher around and was often called from near and far. His work ethic was beyond reproach and he loved plowing the roads for the DOT for many many years. It was often said that once Bob retired the roads were never the same.
Bob will live on in the hearts of his wife, Linda ; his children, Dennis Hawthorne (Melanie) of Picadilly, Ronnie Hawthorne (Stephanie) of Salisbury, Robert “Chopper” Hawthorne (Dawne) of Sussex, and his daughter Cheryl Gilbert (Ferrell) of Sussex Corner, Step children, Thomas Hayley (Ruthann) of Picadilly; Tina Rice (Peter) of Saint John, and Crystal Rice of Picadilly; his 10 grandchildren and 4 step-grandchildren; his 4 great-grandchildren, and his 1 step great-grandchild; his brothers: Herman Hawthorne (Rena) of Penobsquis, and George Hawthorne (Beverly) of Sussex; his sister, Louise Stanwix (Paul) of Sussex; his sister-in-law, Dale Hawthorne; and two brothers-in-law Wayne Watson (Susan) and Weyman Watson (Trisha) Bob is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Bob was predeceased by brothers, Harry and Dean; and sisters, Betty (Walter) and Ivy (Kemis).
Arrangements have been entrusted to Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex, NB (506-433-1176) from where an open celebration of Bob’s life will take place on Wednesday, February 14 from 4-8pm in the Wallace Memorial Chapel.
