Obituary of Nadine Smith

It is with saddened hearts that the family of the late Lois Nadine Smith announce her passing on Friday, May 24, 2024, at the Kings Way Care Centre in Quispamsis, NB. Born in Brookfield, NS on April 26, 1932, she was a daughter of the late Charlie and Phoebe (Matheson) Trenholm.

Nadine moved to Saint John when she was 22 years old, and soon met her husband, Ernest, at a dance. Nadine loved music and especially loved to dance. She started out as a hairdresser for four years in, Truro, NS and at MRA’s when she moved to Saint John. When her children were small, she worked doing hair out of their homes in Glen Falls, and later in Forest Hills, eventually owning her own salon in Saint John for seven years. The last 10 years before retirement, Nadine was the hairdresser at St. Joseph’s Hospital and really enjoyed lifting the patients’ spirits when they had their hair done. When it came time to retire, Nadine chose Sussex. She always felt comfortable and at home here as it reminded her of the little village of Brookfield, where she grew up. She had fun and lived life to the fullest. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren, and felt truly blessed to have such a wonderful life.

She was a member of the Red Hat Society, the senior citizens group, TOPS, and St. John’s United Church.

Nadine, will live on in the hearts of her daughters: Dianne Guay (John) of Kingston, NB and Joanne Buckley (Brian) of Saint John, NB; her son, Mark Smith of Winnipeg, MB; her grandchildren: Mandy, Denise, Stephanie (Matt), Melissa (Jason), Nolan (Tiffany), Samantha (Travis), and Jennifer; her 9 great grandchildren; and her sister, Sharon Bird (Ken) of Thamesford, ON. Nadine is also survived by her nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, Nadine was predeceased by her loving husband, Ernest; her special companion, Ron Pearson; and her brother, Weston Trenholm.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex, NB (506-433-1176). A graveside service will take place at a later date.
