Obituary of Scott Thomas McMurray

It is with heavy hearts that the family of the late Scott McMurray announce his passing on Monday, July 1, 2024, at his residence in Red Bank, NB. Born in Manitoulin Island, Ontario on July 27, 1945, he was a son of the late John and Willamina (Kaye) McMurray.

Scott came from humble beginnings and was the youngest of 12 children. He farmed his family's homestead, alongside his siblings as a young boy.  At 19, Scott moved to the city (Brampton), and began his career as a welder. This career took him into the mining industry where he worked for many years in the mines of Elliot Lake, On. Years later, that same career brought Scott and his family to NB, where he worked in the Mines once again of Cassiday Lake.  Scott switched careers later in life and worked in the forestry industry until retiring to the Cumberland Bay area.  Although a welder by trade, Scott had extensive mechanical knowledge and could often times be found repairing or troubleshooting a problem. Scott loved spending time with his loving wife of 55 years, Mona. He was most content in the solace of nature and appreciated the simple things in life. He was an avid outdoorsman and his hobbies included hunting, boating/ fishing and snowmobiling and slow drives on his four-wheeler with Mona by his side. He loved being on the water.  He had a strong passion for music and could often times be heard picking away at his guitar. Playing music, telling stories, and spending time with family and friends at The "Hollow Oak" were some of Scott's fondest memories which were shared by all those that loved him.

Scott will live on in the hearts of his loving children: Denise (Mike) Foglein of Canaan and Randal (Lisa) McMurray of New Line; his grandchildren: Dani Foglein, James Foglein, Brandon McMurray, Brittany McMurray, and Meghan McMurray; his 6 great-grandchildren; his brother, Percy McMurray (Nancy) of Erin, ON; his sisters: Rosemarie (Marie) of Niagara Falls, ON, and Sally Smith of Winnipeg, MB. Scott is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Scott was predeceased by loving wife, Mona; his brothers: William (Bill), Lawrence (Lorne), Orland, Floyd, Glen, and Kenny; and his sisters, Louise and Bernice

Arrangements have been entrusted to Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex, NB (506-433-1176) from where a Celebration of Scott’s life will take place on Friday, July 19 at 11:00am.
