Obituary of Edgar Forsythe

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Edgar James Forsythe, which occurred at his daughter’s residence in Hampton, NB on Thursday, July 11, 2024, at the age of 98. He was born on March 25, 1926 in Rockville, NB, a son of the late William and Hazel (Kyle) Forsythe and husband of the late Audrey (Parlee) Forsythe.

Edgar is survived by his 6 daughters: Betty (Alfred) Holmes of Saint John, Rose Marshall of Saint John, Mary (Carson) Janes of Hampton, Kim (Stephen) Law of Hampton, Robin (Scott) Watson of Hampton, and Karey (Preston) Cox of Chattanooga, TN, his 2 sons: Bruce (Clara) of Saint John and Walter (Wendy) of Hampton, 26 grandchildren: Tracy London, Jodie Holmes (Martin Hache), Pam Holmes, Tonia Kirkpatrick (Jason), Bill Marshall (Chantina), Scott Marshall (Leeanne), Christopher Forsythe (Tracy), David Forsythe (Alyssa Thompson), Sandra McCluskey (Bill), Jason Forsythe, Chauncey Forsythe (Valentyna), Chelsie Hooper (Danny), Courteney Carlin (Scott), Jeff Janes (Jenn), Greg Janes (Pam), Carla Shea (Peter), Tondie Totten (Mitchell), Anderson Law (Jessica), Donovan Law (Brooke), Devon Law (Megan), Danica Law (Kirandeep Singh), Robert Watson (Amanda DeSylva), Stephanie Watson (Cole Targett), Alexandra White (Cody), Nickolas Pickett (Jamie), and Victoria Payntor. 44 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren; sister Sheila Brown; several nieces, nephews and great friends.

Besides his parents and wife Audrey, Edgar was also predeceased by his infant brother Bill Forsythe; sister Austella Lockhart; son-in-law Bill Marshall, and great grandson Justin Holmes.

Edgar married Audrey in 1950 and spent seventy years building a life and family. They lived in Waterford and Saint John before eventually retiring back to Parlee Brook. Edgar earned a living from many different lines of work and always gave his all. He worked in the woods, picked tobacco, sold cars, did carpentry and handyman jobs, worked retail at Western Tire and as manager of the Automotive Department of K-mart and worked at his brother-in-law, Don Buchanan's Esso station. After retiring, he spent a lot of his days making washer toss boxes, picnic tables and garbage bins and many evenings heading to a neighbouring community hall to play cards.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Dr., Sussex, NB from where visitation will be held on Monday, July 15, 2024 from 4 to 7pm. A Celebration of Edgar's life will be held from St. John's United Church on Tuesday, July 16, 2024 at 2:00pm. Interment will take place in Trinity Anglican Cemetery, Sussex Corner.
