David Nodwell

Obituary of David Nodwell

It is with heavy hearts the family of David John Nodwell announces his passing at the Saint John Regional Hospital, on August 21 2024, at the age of eighty.  Born in Collina, NB on December 25 1943, he was the son of Everett and Mildred (Dibblee) Nodwell.

On June 9 1973, David married Catherine Ann Howe and together they built their home and raised their family in Collina.  David was a hardworking man with a heart of gold who could turn his hand to everything that needed to be done.  He was never idle.  He worked in lumber camps, in the woods, raised foxes, moved pianos, did carpentry work, and anything else to provide for his number one priority: his family.

In June 1961, he graduated from Belleisle Regional High and he went to work at Saint John Shipbuilding.  He completed a qualification in Steel Fabrication and went on to become a foreman during the Frigate programme.  He retired at the age of 70 from the PCS mine after working for Progressive.  He was a people person who loved chatting with everyone.  He would help anyone who needed a hand.

He loved driving including Sunday drives and to sporting events to watch the kids. Many miles were driven to watch hockey.  He made sure everyone got everywhere on time including all those flights!  His Sunday evening drives listening to the Weekend Jamboree caused many eyes to roll.  He would drive miles out of his way for anyone who asked.  It was never a problem. He always enjoyed a good meal with his family, especially if Andrea was cooking.

He loved spending time watching and playing with his beloved grandchildren: Marina, Nolan, and Miel.  He coached each of his kids and Marina in mathematics including many hours on the phone!

He will be so very missed by those who loved him so very much.

David was predeceased by his parents and his brothers Jimmy, Carl, and Lawrence.  David is survived by his wife, Catherine; his children: Steven, Sarah, and Mike (Andrea); his grandchildren: Marina, Nolan, and Miel (her mother Marion Nodwell); his siblings Millie (Jimmy) Cairns; Lois (David) Gaunce; Jerry Nodwell; and sister-in-law, Phyllis Nodwell.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex, NB (506-433-1176). All events will be held privately.
