Obituary of Stan Sample

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Stanford Winton Sample announce his passing on August 21, 2024 at the age of 71.

Born in Ontario on August 30, 1952; he was the son of the late Benvie and Wanda “Aulay” (Fraser) Sample.

Stan was a hardworking man. Having dabbled in many things over the years. He found a love of skiing in his teenage years, opening the door to his work in Ski Patrol and Search and Rescue and on to Poley Mountain in his later years. He also worked as a private investigator in Halifax in the 70’s, security at the local Zellers and even the natural gas company. He loved to stay busy.

He loved his time spent on the stool at the Timberland and Poley Mountain with his “other family” and any time spent on his bike was time spent in his happy place. Stan stayed in Penobsquis to care for his mom and then the cat, after Aulay’s passing.

Stan was the give the shirt off his back kind of man and was always willing to help anyone in need. He will be missed by all of those people whose lives he touched along the way.

He will live on in the hearts of his siblings: Susan Sample of Coles Island, Kenny Sample and Sherry Sararas of Irish Settlement, Michele Nickerson and her husband Larry of Irish Settlement and Bonny Sample of Ontario; his nieces and nephews: Chris, Candice, Samantha, Mitchell, Kyle, Benjamin, Samantha, Sarah, CJ, Marcy, Jenn, Kristina, Danny and Selena; as well as several great nieces and nephews and many friends.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the compassionate care of Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex, (506-433-1176). A Celebration of Stan’s life will be held from Wallace Community Chapel on Friday, August 30, 2024 at 3:00pm. There will be a time of fellowship following at the Timberland.

For those who wish, remembrances to the Living Memorial would be appreciated by the family.  Personal condolences to the family, and donations may be made through wallacefuneralhome.com
