Obituary of Elwyn Daryl Hayes
It is with heavy hearts that the family of the late Elwyn Daryl Hayes announce his sudden passing at the Sussex Health Centre on Tuesday, December 3, 2024, at the age of 79.
Elwyn was born in Head of Millstream, NB on October 18, 1945, and was a son of the late Harmon and Helen (Cosman) Hayes. He had lots of memories from his time at the dairy farm with his father.
Elwyn was a proud member of Local 273 International Longshoremen’s Association. He worked at Furcan Marine and Forterm as a heavy-duty mechanic for over 33 years. He loved his job at the port.
Since his retirement, he enjoyed spending his summers outside lawnmowing and his winters snowplowing with his bike. He loved to enjoy a good meal out. He often stayed up late to watch every hockey game and baseball game. He also enjoyed spending time with his friends and family and taking drives in his car.
Elwyn will live on in the hearts of his children: Stacey (Sean O’Hara), Shannon (David Dawe), and Elwyn (Amy Stewart); and their mother, Patsy; his grandchildren: Jake (Hilary Pond), Hudson, Cullen, and Abby Hayes; his sisters: Carol (Carl) Murray, Faye Smith and Linda Bulmer; sisters-in-law Carole Hayes and Shirley Hayes; and his special friends, Raleigh and Betty Myers, Floyd and Evelyn Mason, the late Roger Mason, and his friends next door, Linda and the late Eric Brown. Elwyn is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Elwyn was predeceased by his siblings: Lawrence Hayes, Nelson Hayes, and Donald Hayes.
The family would like to express their gratitude to Raleigh and Betty Myers, Barb Chestnut, the Millstream Fire Department, the paramedics, doctors, nurses and staff of the Sussex Health Centre, and Dr. Ashley Wood for their incredible efforts, professionalism, and compassion. Our dad couldn’t have asked for better care. Thank you all.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex, NB (506-433-1176). A celebration of Elwyn’s life will take place on Monday, December 9 at 11:00 am from the Wallace Chapel.
