Obituary of Ken Fowler

It is with great sadness we announce the death of Kenneth Donald Fowler of Sussex, NB on January 12, 2025. He passed peacefully at Great Oaks Special Care Home. Kenneth was the son of the late Harry and Olive Fowler.

Kenneth was born on July 30, 1929, in Saint John NB. He attended the Macdonald Consolidated School in Kingston NB.  Kenneth was a businessman; he owned Fowler’s Jewellery in Fredericton and later in Sussex.  He loved building, he built two cottages in Prince William NB, and went on to build two homes in Norton, NB.  He was a past member of Masonic Lodge Hiram # 6 in Fredericton, Capital Y’s Men Club and Fredericton Rotary.  Kenneth was a member of Atlantic Community Church in Apohaqui NB where he was also involved in the building of the church.

He is survived by his wife, Joan Fowler; his son, Gordon Fowler (Cynthia); his daughter, Marilyn Baird (Bruce); his son-in-law, Alan Atkins (Tiffany Russell) and his stepdaughter, Kelly Porter (Mark Hamann); his grandchildren: Matthew Atkins (Jiyoung), Dr. Stephanie Fowler (Mark John), Allison Fowler, Dr. Andrew Baird (Dr. Shannon McCarter), Hilliary Baird (Nicholas Cantwell) and Heather Hughes (Jeremy) and by his great grandchildren: Ara, Jenna, Lily, Jacob, Quinn, Brooke and Myles.  He is also survived by his sisters-in-law: Muriel Fowler, Jean Fowler and Ann Fowler; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Along with his parents, Ken was predeceased by his daughter, Juanita Atkins, in 2015; his brothers: Hazen Fowler, Lloyd Fowler and Fraser Fowler; his sister, Enid Ackles and by his brother-in-law, Doug Ackles.

On behalf of Ken and family, a special thank you to Dr. Brian O’Neill, Jennifer Parlee and the other caregivers at Kindred and to Dorothy and her staff at Great Oaks Special Care Home who lovingly cared for dad in his final months of life.

A funeral service will be held at Wallace Funeral Home in Sussex on January 24th at 1:00pm A private family burial will be held at Kiersteadville Cemetery at a later date.
