Obituary of Jean Murray
It is with deep sadness that the family of Margaret Jean Murray announce her passing, which occurred at Embassy Hall in Quispamsis, NB on January 17, 2025. Born in Sussex, NB on November 22, 1926, she was a daughter of the late Irvine and Florence (Loughery) Chambers.
Jean loved to travel and made several trips around Noth America, Australia, New Zealand, parts of South America, the British Isles, and the Caribbean.
She was a long-time member of St. Paul’s United Church and served as a Sunday school teacher and UCW Maple Leaf Unit member.
In addition to spending time travelling and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren, Jean enjoyed knitting, sewing, jigsaw and word puzzles, and the retired nurses’ breakfasts.
Jean graduated from the Saint John General Hospital School of Nursing in 1948 and ended her nursing career in 1987.
The last few years she lived in Picadilly, she enjoyed many meals, evenings, and travel with her special friends, Dot and Tereca Carr. The care she was provided by her niece, Heather Spicer, allowed her to live at home for a few additional years.
The family would like to thank Parkland in the Valley and it’s staff at Concorde and Embassy Halls for the excellent care and compassion they provided for the last three years.
Jean is survived by her children: Brian (Betty) of Jemseg, NB, Robert (Cheryl) of Clifton Royal, NB, Elizabeth (Kelly Booth) of Vancouver, BC, and Margaret (Leslie) of Rye, Australia; her 11 grandchildren; her 11 great grandchildren; and her sister-in-law, Margaret Boundy. Jean is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Jean was predeceased by her loving husband, Lloyd; her son, Don; and her siblings: George Chambers, Doug Chambers, Len Chambers, and Ruth Jonah.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex, (506-433-1176). There will be a celebration of Jean’s life held at a later date.
Donations to St. Paul’s United Church, Kirk Hill Cemetery, or a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family. Donations and personal condolences to the family may be made through www.wallacefuneralhome.com
