Obituary of Leslie Charles Graves
Leslie was born in Apohaqui, NB on June 30, 1927, he was the son of Harold and Elizabeth "Molly" (McCauley) Graves.
Leslie first started work at the CNR as a time keeper and then on to the Parts Dept at KC Irving and Lawson Motors. He was a store keeper with W.E. Emerson and in shipping and receiving with W.H. Thorne.
He then moved to Halifax where he worked in the Parts Dept. with Chrysler Corporation and Tanner Chrysler. Later, he lived in Musquodoboit Harbour where he was a store keeper for Cox Electric, until he and Rebecca and moved to Cheticamp, Cape Breton where he opened his own auto parts store called L&R Auto Parts.
Upon retirement, Leslie moved back home to Norton in 1991 and met Ramona one year later. He accepted her invitation to a Christmas Party and they've been together ever since.
Leslie loved to hunt, fish and bowl. When he was young, he was a baseball player and a good one at that. He enjoyed walking, camping and travelling.
Leslie was a very quiet and soft spoken man, but also very loving and completely devoted to his Church where he served as an elder. Leslie served as a Director of the Sharing Club and was also a member of the Norton Seniors.
Leslie is survived by his wife Ramona (Martin); two sisters; Hazel Fleming and her husband Joseph of Saint John and Joyce Griffiths of Norton; his step daughters: Elizabeth O'Donnell and her husband, Douglas, of Apohaqui, Shirley Hines and Alyre Roy of Shediac Bridge and Nancy Hale and Chester Carter of Elmwood, NB; his step grandchildren; Andrew (Darlene), Peter (Ellen), Christopher (Ronda) and Nicholas (Tanya), Rhonda and Jennifer; his step great-grandchildren; Jesse, Emily, Isaac, Matthew, Owen and Declan as well as nieces and nephews: his Marie, Shirley, Leta, Carolyn, Hallie, Kim, Joanne and Jimmy.
Leslie is predeceased by his first wife Rebecca, his sister Jean Lohnes and by his nephew, Robbie.
Mr. Leslie Charles Graves of Lower Millstream passed away on February 12, 2012 at the age of 84.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the compassionate care of Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex, (506-433-1176).
Visitation will be held at Saint Andrew's United Church in Norton on Wednesday, February 15, 2012 from 12-2:00pm followed by a Celebration of Leslie's life.
As an expression of sympathy donations made to the Saint Andrew's United Church in Norton, the Sussex Sharing Club or to the memorial of the donor's choice would be appreciated by the family.
