Andy was born June 1932 in Saint John NB and spent his childhood on Seely St. in the Mount Pleasant area. He enjoyed sliding, skiing and skating in Rockwood Park. Hockey on Lily Lake was a favourite past time. There were not many times he was seen without his faithful dog. As a young boy he was fortunate to be able to travel up the St. John river by boat to Camp Pascobac on Belleisle Bay where he spent many a summer as a camper. This led him to be a counsellor for many summers and he served as a great mentor to many kids. During his RCS days he continued on with sports, playing hockey, basketball and track & field. He excelled in long distance running and during his time at RCS he ran a mile in 4.59 minutes. On to Sir George Williams College in Montreal became a stepping stone to many years affiliated with the YMCA. Upon returning to Saint John, Andy followed in his father's footsteps and joined the family business, W.F. Allan Co. and Warehouse and Transport Ltd. He married Carol Josselyn in 1957 and had 3 children. Andy was president of the St. John Y's Men's Club and was always involved with his church. He was treasurer of St. Paul's United and served on the Board of Stewards. Twice he served as Grand Master of the Union Lodge of Portland. Dad's love for skiing led him to be one of the founders of Poley Mountain. Andy was turning ground for the Poley's inception on Nov. 22, 1963. In 1998, Andy married Mim Foley and a blended family was begun. Andy will always be remembered for his passion for life, family and friends. Andy will live on in the hearts of his beloved wife, Miriam "Mim"; his daughter Leslie Johnston and her husband Frank of Saint John; his son Drew Allan and his wife Kim of Waterford; his step children: Allan Foley and his wife Peggy of New Lowell, ON and Anne Moore and her husband David of Aurora, ON; his grandchildren: Laura and Blake Johnston and Amanda and Matthew Allan; his step grandchildren: Christopher and Drew Moore and Donald Foley; his sister-in-law, Sandra Freeman and her husband Bryant of Riverview; as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins and many wonderful friends. He is predeceased by his first wife, Carol (Josselyn) Allan who passed away in 1997 and by his son, Stewart E. Allan who passed away in 1981. Mr. Andrew "Andy" Stewart Allan of Sussex formerly of Saint John, passed away at the St. Joseph's Hospital on January 27, 2012 at the age of 79. Arrangements are entrusted to the care of Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex, (506-433-1176), where visitation will be held on Tuesday 1-3 and 6-8pm. Zion Lodge #21 F&AM will host a tribute Tuesday evening at 5:45pm A Celebration of Andy's life will be held from St. Paul's United Church on Wednesday, February 1, 2012 at 11:00 am followed by a time of fellowship with the family in the Church Hall. A private family interment will take place at Fernhill Cemetery. Donations made to the memorial of the donor's choice would be appreciated by the family.
