Obituary of Marion Doney

Marion Marilla Born in Penobsquis on October 23, 1924, she was the daughter of Frank and Marion (McLeod) Morton. Rilla worked for Eaton's in Moncton in the business office and for years she and Walter were the custodians of the Sussex Baptist Church. She was very meticulous with all she did. Every year she would take a new calendar and write all the birthdays and special events coming up for the whole year. Rilla and Walter were married later in life. She was 34 and he was 46. They went on to have their son Douglas and he was perfect to Rilla. Family meant everything to Rilla. She loved to watch her grandchildren play sports or any other special events in their lives. She loved to cook. Macaroni and Cheese and brown bread were just a couple of her specialtyies and the brown bread was made every Saturday. She and Walter would load the car up with her wonderful cooking and would enter baking competitions at the fairs. She not only entered at the Kings County Exhibition, but the Saint John and Gagetown Exhibitions as well. Of course, Rilla always did very well and won most of the competitions she entered. Rilla was a member of the Women's Institute with both Penobsquis and Sussex. She was very community oriented enjoyed helping other people. Rilla made many lifelong friendships throughout the years. She and Walter were both well known and very respected in the town of Sussex. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend who will be lovingly remembered. Rilla is survived by a son, Douglas and his wife Susan of Sussex; her sister Margaret Briggs of Bayfield, NB; three grandchildren, Brianne, Hayley and Ethan as well as several nieces and nephews. Rilla was predeceased by a brother, Jack and her sisters, Marjorie Robinson and Annie Smith as well as her sister in law Audrey Merritt. Arrangements are entrusted to the care of Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive Sussex, NB (506)4331176 from where visitation will be held on Wednesday from 1-3 and 6-8pm.
