Obituary of John McLeod

Mr. John Kerr Bentley McLeod of Canterbury Hall, Riverview formerly of Sussex passed away at his residence on Saturday January 21, 2012 at the age of 94. Born in St. Martins on December 2, 1917, he was the son of the late Ruben E and Lulu M. (Brown) McLeod and the husband of the late A. Reta (Logan) McLeod who passed away in 1999. Bentley is survived by two daughters Carol Smith and her husband Clifford of Brookfield, NS, and Susan Dunfield and her husband Malcolm of Riverview, NB; a brother Gordon (Joanne) McLeod of Fredericton; four grandchildren, Kelly Smith and her husband Mike Fraser of Fall River, NS, Susan and her husband Jeff Mills of Bedford, NS, Aaron Dunfield and his wife Andrea of Riverview, and Kevin Dunfield of Riverview; four great grandchildren Jacob, Madison, Aidan and Amelia; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his sisters Otis Setley and Isabel (Charles) Wallace, brother Roland (Joan). For many years Bentley was involved in the Lumbering Business, operating Lumber camps and saw mills. He had a great interest in the Fundy trail, where McLeod Brook and Falls was named after him in 1999. Bentley willingly shared his personal experiences, memories, and knowledge of coastal logging sites used in the early 1900s. He was a member of St. Paul's United Church and a past member of the Golden "K". In his earlier years he enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating and playing golf. Arrangements are entrusted to the care of Wallace Funeral Home, Sussex NB. Funeral to be held at St. Paul's United Church, 24 Morrison Ave, Sussex, NB on Wednesday, January 25th at 1:00pm, reception to follow. There will be no visitations at Bentley's request. The interment will take place at Kirk Hill Cemetery in the spring. Donations made to the memorial of the donor's choice would be appreciated by the family.
