Obituary of John Guilfoyle

Surrounded by his loving wife and family, Gene passed away peacefully on January 16th at the Kiwanis Nursing Home in Sussex, New Brunswick. Born in Gibbon, Head of Millstream, NB, he was the son of John and Lillian (Doyle) Guilfoyle. Gene was a good provider and active man, employed in many jobs throughout his life, including elementary school custodian in New Hampshire and at Potocan Mines from 1977 to 1994. He was a loyal church parishioner at St. Phillips Church and was a member of the Knights of Columbus for over fifty years. Gene was an outdoors man, hunter, politically involved and a family man. Gene will be lovingly remembered by Yvonne his beloved wife of 49 years, his children Michael Guilfoyle and his wife Laura of Lincoln, Kathleen Folkins and her husband Everett of Pleasant Ridge, Daniel Guilfoyle and Leanne O'Neil of Vancouver, Yvette MacLong and Steve Cole of Quispamsis and Stephanie Guilfoyle of Halifax; the MacLong grandchildren: Justin, Alesha, Michele and Matthew along with their dad, Greg. They along with Tyler, Ryan, Joel, Blake (Folkins), Erin (Guilfoyle) and Megan and Brylie (Guilfoyle) will miss the hockey talk, stories and humour. He has several nieces and nephews in the USA.Gene was predeceased by his older brother Murray and his infant brother Michael. Yvonne and the family would like to thank the staff and volunteers of the Kiwanis Nursing Home and Dr. Allaby for their contributions to his well being in the last two years. Your care and kindness is appreciated. Arrangements have been entrusted to Wallace Funeral Home from where the family will receive visitors on Wednesday, January 18th from 1-3 and 6-8pm. There will be a Mass of Christian Burial held at St. Francis Xavier Roman Catholic Church on Thursday, January 19, 2012 at 10:00am followed by a reception in the Church Hall. Donations made in memory of Gene can be made to the Kiwanis Nursing Home, Parkinsan's Disease or St. Phillip's Roman Catholic Church would be appreciated by the family.
