Mr. Harold Randolph Young of 119 Church Ave. Sussex, New Brunswick passed away at Sussex Health Centre on January 28, 2006 at the age of 84. Harold was born in Bonavista, Newfoundland October 2, 1921 and was the son of the late J. James Young of Bridgetown, Nova Scotia and Elizabeth (Roberts) Young Waterman of Change Islands, Newfoundland. He is survived by his beloved wife, Barbara I. (Robinson) Young of Sussex, N.B. and by several cousins. He was predeceased by his sister Barbara E. Cumming and by his father and mother-in-law Mr. and Mrs. J.F. Eldon Robinson. Mr. Young lived in several towns in the Atlantic Provinces as a result of his father's position as a branch manager with the Bank of Nova Scotia. He was educated at Mount Allison Academy and University where he received his Engineering Certificate in 1941, following which he received his Bachelor of Civil Engineering from McGill University in 1943 and his Master of Business Administration from Harvard Business School in 1955. Mr. Young worked across Canada on various engineering projects for Alcan, C.D Howe Co., Dominion Bridge and A.D. Margison and Associates. In 1955 he joined the World Bank in Washington, D.C. as a highway engineer, a position he held until his retirement in 1985, following which he was employed as a transport consultant for ten years with the World Bank. He worked on projects in Central America, East Asia, Pacific, Europe and Africa. Besides being a member of various engineering clubs he was a member of the Nairobi Club of Kenya, the Union Club of Saint John, N.B. and the Kiwanis Club of Sussex, N.B. Mr. Young was an avid tennis player and also enjoyed hunting and gardening. Arrangements are entrusted to the care of Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex, (506-433-1176), with visitation at his home on Monday, January 30th from 2-4 and 7-9pm. The Funeral Service will be from St. Paul's United Church on Tuesday, January 31, 2006 at 3:30 pm followed by the interment at Kirk Hill Cemetery, Sussex, NB.
