Mr. Verner Thompson Jones of Southfield passed away at his residence on January 27th, 2006 at the age of 85. Born in Carsonville NB on December 29, 1920, he was the son of the late George and Isabelle (Thompson) Jones and the beloved husband of the late Verna (Buchanan) Jones who passed away in 1996. Verner is survived by his daughter; Linda Lackie and her husband Dale of Southfield, his son; Lloyd and his wife Heather of Snider Mountain, his foster daughter, Christine Bedell and her husband Peter of Wickham and her children, Michael, Melissa and Shawn, his foster son Arnold Gregg and his wife Marlene of Whites Mountain and their children, Tina and Verna, his sister-in-law Laura Jones of Sussex Corner, five (5) grandchildren; Christa (Kevin), Teri (Steve), Alicia (Bryce), Stacey (Dougie), Lacey, as well as several nieces and nephews. Verner was predeceased by his brother Warren in 1998. Verner was born and grew up in Carsonville, the youngest son of George and Isabelle (Thompson) Jones. He worked in the lumber camps in his early years and had many stories to share; like waking up in the morning with his hair stuck to the bunkhouse wall because it was so cold. On September 19, 1945, he married Verna (Buchanan) and they shared 50 years together. He used to work in Saint John at the Grain Elevator and then come home to work on the family farm. Dad had a great love of the land and could always seem to make anything grow, even the sad little watermelon plants no one else could seem to grow, in his care, by summer's end we were eating watermelon. He was a kind gentle farmer, with great respect for his animals, whether it be the barn cats or his herd of white- faced cows. Often times last summer he could be found by our fence, getting a look at the calves or coaxing the colt over to be petted. He was a great friend and neighbor to all around him. In May 2005, Dad was told that he had only a short time left, but he defied the odds and continued to live a good and healthy life. We will always remember Dad and Grampy for his sense of humour, unfailing courage and all the wisdom he passed onto each of us. He touched the hearts of each and every person who knew him and will remember him always. Arrangements are entrusted to the care of Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex, (506-433-1176), with visitation on Monday January 30, 2006, 2-4, 7-9pm. . The Funeral Service will be held from Carsonville Head of Millstream United Church on Tuesday January 31, 2006 at 11:00 am. Interment at Carsonville Cemetery. As an expression of sympathy donations made to the Carsonville Head of Millstream United Church, Canadian Cancer Society or to the memorial of the donor's choice would be appreciated by the family.
