Obituary of Garfield Perry
Garfield Myles Perry of Sussex, NB, passed away at Saint John Regional Hospital on August 30, 2004 at the age of 82.
Born in Perry Settlement, NB on August 17, 1922, he was the son of the late Renwick and Carrie (Keith) Perry.
Garfield began his work career at the age of fourteen, leaving the family farm to work at the farm of Earl McKnight. He followed the woods in the winter working in various area lumber camps. After farming and lumbering, the army took him when he was sent overseas as a member of the ambulance corps. At the end of WWII, the ambulance corps disbanded and Garfield continued his service for his country as a dispatch rider. He completed his service with an honourable discharge in 1946 returning to the family farm in Perry Settlement.
Garfield is survived by his beloved wife Shirley (Gailey) Perry, his daughter, Sonjia McGlashing and her husband Don of Trenton, Ontario, his son Rocky and his wife Jill of Queensville, NB, his sisters, Alice Price of Rothesay and Greta Bennett of Peterborough, Ontario, his sister-in-law, Margaret Perry of Sussex, brother-in-law, Joe Dickie of Cornhill, 3 grandchildren, Tori McGlashing, Jebediah Perry and Mikaela Perry, several nieces and nephews.
Garfield was predeceased by his sister, Marjorie Dickie, 2 brothers, Clifford Perry and Foster Perry and his sister-in-law, Margaret Perry.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the compassionate care of Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex, (506-433-1176) where visitation was held on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9.
A service celebrating Garfield’s life will be held from Wallace Memorial Chapel on Thursday, September 02, 2004 at 2:00 pm.
