Obituary of Raymond Hourihan

Mr. Raymond Hourihan of Apohaqui passed away at the Sussex Health Centre on December 11, 2011 at the age of 78. Born in Roachville on May 28, 1933, he was the son of the late George Wilfred and Beulah (Starkey) Hourihan. Raymond attended school at the Roachville School for his younger years and then moving on to Sussex. As a young man, Ray travelled to Montreal where he worked in the parts department at Omer Barre in Verdun. He met and married Jeannine in 1966 and they lived in Verdun until 1979, when they moved to Riverbank. Ray, although officially retired continued working at various garages for a number of years. Ray was a member of the Sussex Golf and Curling Club, the Royal Canadian Legion and in later years, a member of Scenic View Golf Club and Trailer Park. Ray was very talented musically and played guitar. In early years, he accompanied his father at many of the local dances. After Ray was married, he taught himself how to play the violin and spend many happy hours playing a violin that had been crafted by his Uncle Felix. Raymond is survived by his wife Jeannine; two sisters: Joyce Hawthorn of Victoria, BC and Carol Brown of Apohaqui; his brother James Hourihan of Sussex, two sisters-in-law Liz Hourihan of California and Elaine Hourihan of Apohaqui; nieces and nephews, Thomas Hawthorn (Debbie), Heather Doyle (Gearn), Tim Hourihan (Sonya), Dan Hourihan (Sheri), Kim Scott (Martin), Dana Hourihan (Mike Perrie) and Shawn Brown. Ray is predeceased by his brothers Harold (Bud) and Gerry and by his brothers-in-law: Bob Brown and Thomas Hawthorn and by step mother, Grace London-Hourihan.; Arrangements were entrusted to the care of Wallace Funeral Home, Sussex, from where visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 13, 2011 from 1-4pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from St. Francis Xavier RC Church on December 14, 2011 at 10:00am with Fr. Arnie Hachey officiating. Interment will be in Riverbank Cemetery. Memorial Donations made to the Donor's Choice would be appreciated by the family.
