Obituary of Michael McDermott
Michael Douglas McDermott of Newtown, NB, passed away at Saint John Regional Hospital on May 2, 2004 at the age of 39. Born in Sussex, NB on October 9, 1964, he was the son of Berna (Parlee) McDermott and the late John A. McDermott who passed away in 1994. Mike is survived by Paula his beloved wife of 12 years, his daughter, Erika and his son John-Michael, two sisters; Leona Bruce and her husband Clarence of Calgary, Lisa Bernschein and her husband Wolfgang of Codys, six brothers; Jim of Smith Creek, Paul and his wife Connie of Newtown, Randy and his wife Heidi of Millbrook, John and his wife Pam of Quirk Rd, Mark and his wife Joanne of Plumweseep, Joel and his wife Pam of Smiths Creek, as well as several nieces and nephews. Mike was predeceased by his brother Christopher in 1989. Mike co-owned and operated McDermott Logging and Trucking with his brother Paul. He was a member of St. Francis Xavier RC Church. Hockey was his passion, he built a rink in his backyard 96'x 46', boarded-in 4 feet high all the way around for the kids. He loved his four wheeler, ball hockey, the Boston Bruins, his trucks and his sports car. He loved life and lived it to the fullest. He told his family daily how much he loved them. Arrangements are entrusted to the care of Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex, (506-433-1176). The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from St. Francis Xavier Roman Catholic Church on Wednesday, May 5, 2004 at 1:00 p.m. with Fr. Arnie Hachey officiating. Interment will be at St. Michael's Roman Catholic Cemetery.
