Obituary of Mary Nickerson
Mrs. Mary Fortune Straiton Nickerson, of the Kiwanis Nursing Home and formerly of Golding Street, Sussex, New Brunswick, passed away at her residence on April 4, 2004 at the age of 85. Mary was born in Loanhead Scotland on June 15, 1918, she was the daughter of the late Peter Alexander and Robina (McGillivray) Waugh and the beloved wife of the late Charles Henry Nickerson who passed away in 1963. Mary is survived by 2 daughters, Jean Folkins and her husband David of Mount Middleton, Elizabeth Forsythe and her husband Allison of Waterford, 2 sons, Robin (Hank) and Louise Cairns of Columbia, South Carolina, James and his wife Wanda of Regina, Saskatchewan, 4 brothers, Alex Waugh of Rochester, England, Ted Waugh and his wife Delia of Loanhead, Scotland, Peter Waugh and his wife Mary of Edmonton, Alberta, George Waugh of Loanhead, Scotland, 3 sisters, Maria Carians of Loanhead, Scotland, Jean Massie of Loanhead, Scotland, Elizabeth McLeish and her husband Alex of Roselyn, Scotland, 4 sisters-in-law, Jenny Waugh of Westbury, England, Janet Waugh of Loanhead, Scotland, Eileen Munroe of Sussex, NB, Greta Munroe of Dutch Valley, 5 granddaughters, Nancy White, Cindy Folkins, Nicole and Stacey Forsythe, Brandie and her husband Cory Jorgenson, 1 grandson, Joshua Nickerson, 6 great-grandchildren, Micheal, Charles, Brendan, Travis, Matthew and Kaylynn, as well as several nieces and nephews. Mary was predeceased by her brothers James and John and by her sister Ina and her grandson Robert Forsythe. Mary's greatest enjoyment was her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren; a lot of her time was spent visiting with them. Mary belonged to St. Paul's United Church; she was a life member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 20 and the Ladies Auxiliary. She was also a member of the Sussex Senior Citizens Club, CNIB Board, Sussex Al-Alon, and NB War Brides Association. Mary was involved with the Royal Canadian Legion Literacy Program where she volunteered her time reading to children in the Sussex Elementary School. She was a member of the Kings East Ladies, and the Fundy Royal PC Associations. Arrangements are entrusted to the care of Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex, (506-433-1176), with visitation on Tuesday 2-4, 7-9. The Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 20 will hold a tribute Tuesday at 6:45 pm. The Funeral Service will be held from St. Paul's United Church on Wednesday, April 7, 2004 at 2:00 pm with Rev. Philip Dallimore officiating. Interment will take place at Kirk Hill Cemetery in the spring. As an expression of sympathy donations may be made to the CNIB, The Royal Canadian Legion Poppy Fund or to the memorial of the donor's choice would be appreciated by the family.
