Obituary of Gordon Perry
Mr. G. Gordon Perry, of Coles Island, NB, passed away at Saint John Regional Hospital on December 30, 2003 at the age of 93 after a lengthy illness.
He was born in Saint John, on February 25, 1910, the son of the late Ira D. and Nettie (Humphrey) Perry.
Gordon's mother died when he was ten and he went to live with his grandmother on the family farm at Perry's Point. He was a descendent of William Perry who came to New Brunswick with the United Empire Loyalist Spring Fleet in 1783. During his early years he farmed in summer and worked in the woods in the winter months. His real love was mechanics and he excelled in repairing cars, trucks and tractors.
This experience gained him employment with the Iron Ore Co of Canada in Seven Islands Quebec as a master mechanic. He was an excellent storey teller with a long memory of the genealogy of his family and the families of neighbours and friends. He spoke about people that lived a hundred years ago as if they just lived down the road. In his later years a very popular pass time in the evening was the CB where he was known as the Old Crawler, he enjoyed debating politics, music and especially playing the harmonica.
Gordon is survived by his children, Muriel Perry of Coles Island and Toronto, Don Perry and his wife Nora of Upperton, Bea Burman of London, Ont., Bob Perry and his wife Donna of Quispamsis, and their mother, Ina Lenora (Kilpatrick) Perry, 9 grandchildren; Linda Galbraith, Kevin Perry (Janice), Kimberley Allen (Darrell), Tanya Roberts (Rick), Carla Timperley (Mark), Jonathon Burman (Kiyoko), Melissa Perry, Sean Perry and Adam Perry, 14 great grandchildren; Grant, Lauren, Matthew, Andrew, Nicole, Caleb, Ethan, Shawn, Tyson, Lindsay, Raelyn, Lacey, Alyssa, Chantee, as well as several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his son Gary, his brother George, his grandson Donnie, his friend Bernice Golden and by his sons-in-law, Glenn Pattinson and David L. Burnman.
Arrangements are entrusted to the care of Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex, (506-433-1176), with visitation on Friday 2-4, 7-9 pm.
