Obituary of Stella Stevens

Stella Thora Stevens was born in Midland, NB on October 6, 1936; she was the daughter of the late Everett and Margaret (Demmons) McAllister and the wife of the late Holly Stevens who passed away in 2001. Stella retired from Mill Cove Nursing Home after 25 years. She was active with the Coles Island Senior Citizens Club, A life member of the Coles Island United Church and a recent member of Pearsonville United Church. Stella loved to read, knit, crochet, travel to listen to gospel and country music and spend time with her family. She was an enthusiastic guest of the Petawawa Silver Threads Seniors Group and was very proud to be a Snow Bird. Stella was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and was loved more than words can express. Stella and Holly traveled across Canada and the United States. Together they experienced life to the fullest and encouraged others to do the same. Stella enjoyed each and every experience they had together and with their very special friends. With more Church dinners and picnics than anyone could count, together they embraced the spirit of friendship, music and community. Stella loved life! She exemplified courage and strength and a desire to find the bright side of any adversity. Stella provided a guidance and an example to her family and friends that will last generation after generation. Stella was a beacon that drew everyone to her. She was a true friend and will be greatly missed by all who loved her. Stella will live on in the hearts of her daughters: Connie Lee and her husband Paul of Quispamsis, Penny Stevens of Coles Island and Hollee Kew and her husband Brandon of Petawawa, Ont; her sons: Donald Stevens of Coles Island, Kevin and his wife Cindy of Bagdad and Terry and his wife Nancy of Saint John; her sister, Hazel Thompson and her husband George of Minto; 10 grandchildren: Jeremy, Benjamin, Joey, TJ, Rebecca, Courtney, RJ, Kendra, Hannah and Derych; her great grandson, Zachary; as well as several nieces and nephews. Stella Thora Stevens of Coles Island, passed away at the Oromocto Hospital on July 24, 2003, at the age of 66. Along with her parents and her husband, Stella was predeceased by her sister, Dorothy and by her brother, Spurgeon (Spud). Arrangements are entrusted to the care of Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex, (506-433-1176), with visitation on Friday 2-4 pm. The Funeral Service is held from Wallace Memorial Chapel on Saturday, July 26, 2003 at 11:00 am. Interment at Coles Island Cemetery.
