Obituary of Gerard Gallant
Gerard (Gerry) Alonzo Gallant of Sussex Corner, passed away peacefully with his family by his side, at the Sussex Health Centre on June 1st, 2003 at the age of 61. Gerry was born in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan on January 8, 1942. He was the son of the late Alonzo Joseph and Genevieve Marie (Arsenault) Gallant. Gerry is survived by his wife Barbara E. (Simpson) Elderkin, two daughters; Sherry Gunderson and her husband Gordon of Big River, Saskatchewan and Dawn Steeves and her husband Bill of Varscoy, Saskatchewan, three sons; Rocky and his wife Trudy of Ft. Saskatchewan, Alberta, Terry and his wife Crystal of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Todd and his wife Debbie of Weyburn, Saskatchewan, and their mother, Nora Gallant of Big River, Saskatchewan. Gerry is also survived by his daughter-in-law, Lynn of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, 2 step-daughters; Pamela Safruk and her husband Todd of Calgary, Alberta and Leslie Beierback of Medicine Hat, Alberta, 2 step-sons; Dale Elderkin and his wife Brenda of Hay River, NWT and Kevin Elderkin of Medicine Hat, Alberta, two sisters; Loretta Osinchuk and her husband Al and Gloria Dunn and her husband Ross, and his brother-in-law, Les Dunn all of Big River, Saskatchewan, twenty grandchildren: Derek, Shawn, T.J., Judd, Matthew, Kristen and her husband Neil, Andrea, Tyler, Kale, Dustin, Jada, Keegan, Arron, Blake, Trevor, Travis, Chad, Lacey, Courtney and Jamie, as well as several nieces and nephews and his cat Louie. Gerry was predeceased by his sister Gail Dunn, infant daughter Kimberley and grandson, Josh. Gerry was a Miner for Potash Corporation of Saskatchewan in Penobsquis. Among his hobbies where Antique Cars, Hockey, Guns, Reading and Rodeos. He was known to plan his vacations around the Calgary Stampede. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex, (506-433-1176). At Gerry's request there will be no visitation or funeral service. The family will be receiving relatives and friends at St. Francis Xavier Church Hall on Friday, June 6, 2003 at 2:00 pm. A graveside service will be held at Big River Cemetery, Big River Saskatchewan at a later date. As an expression of sympathy donations may be made to the Sussex Health Centre Palliative Care Unit, the Canadian Cancer Society or the memorial of the donor's choice.
