Obituary of Florence Lynch

Mrs. Florence Mabel Lynch, of 451 Poodiac Road Poodiac, New Brunswick passed away at Sussex Health Centre on May 24, 2003 at the age of 86. Born in Waterford, New Brunswick on April 21, 1916, Florence was the daughter of the late S. Thompson and M. Jeanetta (Walker) Anderson. She is survived by her beloved husband George, her daughter Georgie Greer of Sussex, her son Wallace and his wife Lillian of Bains Corner, two sisters Lauretta Campbell of Yorkton, Saskatchewan, Emma Anderson of Sussex, 2 sisters-in-law, Mary Anderson of Norton and Ruby Anderson of Saint John, 6 grandchildren; Chris, Tony, Sandra-Lea, Corey, Shawn, Crystal, 5 great grandchildren; Philip, Kelsey-Lynn, Jessy, Sydney and Zachary as well as several nieces and nephews. Florence is predeceased by four Sisters; Kathleen, Pauline, Lillian and Marion and three brothers, Raymond, Jarvis and Derald Anderson. In 1830, Samuel C. Walker, her maternal great grandfather was an Irish immigrant to Walker Settlement and was the person for whom the community was named. Her paternal great grandfather, Samuel Thompson Anderson arrived in 1860 and stayed for a while with his brother-in-law Samuel C. Walker before settling in Anderson Settlement, east of Walton's Lake. Her paternal grandfather, William Anderson, eventually moved back to Walker Settlement in the 1880's and lived up on the Glebe Hill behind the present Anderson homestead. Florence loved her church and her community. After her marriage to George they lived in Ontario for a short time before George went overseas in WWII. Florence and their daughter Georgie stayed in Saint John. Eventually, Florence opened and operated Lynch's Grocery store in East Saint John for many years before retiring to Poodiac, where they had a summer camp since the late '50's. Florence was active with George in many of the activities of the Orange Lodge, though she never became a member of the LOBA. She especially enjoyed meeting people and entertaining in their home. She enjoyed to cook whether for a few or for many. Her door was always open to family and friends. Florence was a member of Waterford United Church and a former member of the Sussex and Valley CB Radio and Sussex Snow-mobile Clubs. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex, (506-433-1176), with visitation on Monday 2-4, 7-9pm. The Funeral Service will be held from St. John's United Church, Sussex Corner, Tuesday May 27th at 1:00PM. with the interment to follow in Trinity Cemetery.
