Obituary of Vera Tabor

Mrs. Vera Lydia Madeline Tabor, of Apohaqui, passed away at Sussex Health Centre on April 1, 2003. Vera was born in Londonderry September 26, 1923 and was raised in Hammondvale on the family farm. She was the daughter of the late Walter and Beatrice (Black) Seeley. As a young woman, she worked for the Jones family in Apohaqui as a live- in maid and also as family homecare for the Dr. Wheaton family in Sussex. She married Merlin Tabor, the boy next door in 1946 and moved to Sussex for a little while before settling in a little house that Merlin built in Dutch Valley. In 1973 they moved to the current house in Apohaqui. For 20 years their loved multiplied 16 times over and it seemed they had an open baby delivery account with Dr. Dougan. Mom's life became for the children who needed fed, bathed, cleaned, clothed and medical attention. Mom's sources of enjoyment were knitting, lunch with Bob Barker, ginger chocolates and gardening. She especially enjoyed packing as many kids as possible into the family car and heading out to the strawberry or blueberry fields for a full day of berry picking. Paring-knife in hand, it was always a treat for her to open the parcels received from the girls in BC on every special occasion. Mom was also an avid Royal watcher and a highlight for her was to have been able to see the Queen this past year on her Golden Jubilee Tour. After her children had grown, Mom enjoyed the fruits of her labor, her 19 grandchildren! With each new baby, she did an initial inspection to ensure all fingers and toes were present and to see if any had inherited the tell-tale red hair. Mom always stayed close to home and family, but did treasure her memories of two trips to B.C. to visit the girls. Little did she know she was making fond memories for the rest of us. She is survived by 7 daughters, Marie Tabor and Ron Suzuki of Vancouver, Rosalyn and Bill Stockdale of Drurys Cove, NB, Gayle Tabor of Coquitlam, BC, Janet and Mark McLean of Taylor Lake, NB, Pamela and David Hazen of Halifax, NS, Dawn Tabor and Ron Webb of Apohaqui, NB, Trina Tabor and Ron Corbett of Apohaqui, NB; 7 sons, David and Barbara of Apohaqui, NB, Arthur and Janet of Hampton, NB, Larry of Hammondvale, NB, Bernard and Judy of Charlottetown, PEI, Kent and Krista of Drurys Cove, NB, Peter and Lucie of Chipman, NB, Shawn of Sussex, NB. 4 sisters, Gertrude Titus and her husband Sterling of Roachville, NB, Freda Wilbur and her husband Glen of Dilhi, Ontario, Althea Lawrence of Eden, Ontario, Ruth Floyd and her husband Stewart of Sussex, NB, 2 brothers, Vernon Seeley and his wife Betty of Wards Creek, NB, Lloyd Seeley and his wife Zeta of Hammondvale, NB, 2 sister-in-laws, Vera Seeley of Hammond and Dorothy Seeley of Sussex; 19 grandchildren, Jonathan, Matthew, Laura, Sarah, Kendra, Brett, Alex, Aaron, Anik, Leigh, Mark and Nathan Tabor, Patrick and Lauren Stockdale, Donald McLean, Rebecca Hazen, Madeline Webb, Christopher and Benjamin Corbett, many nieces and nephews.
