Obituary of Curtis Thorne
Mr. Curtis R. Thorne, of Ridgewood Veterans Wing, Saint John and formerly of Lowell St., Sussex. Passed away at Ridgewood Veterans Hospital on Friday August 2, 2002. Born in Sussex on August 26, 1919, he was the son of the late Austin and Mary (Carson) Thorne and the husband of the late Dorothy (Ellison) Thorne who passed away in 1989. Curtis is survived by his son Ellison and his wife Kate of Sussex. His brother Raymond of Moncton, 2 sisters; Willda of French Village, Lorraine Adams and her husband Robert of Saint John, 2 grandsons; Jesse and Morgan and several nieces and nephews. Curtis was predeceased by his brothers, Vernon and Ira. He loved children and they loved him. He had no trouble conversing with a four year old. Children, you see, are the best judges of character. His grandchildren, Jesse and Morgan, he loved dearly. He was there when they were babies. He grew older as they grew, but it made him feel younger. Their fiddles and their music, he was so proud. Curtis R. Thorne Curtis served overseas during the Second World War in Italy and Holland with the Carleton York Regiment. In May of this year, he received his metal for serving in Holland. Curtis was employed by Irving Oil for over twenty-four years, a pollution technician with Pollution Control and later with the Town of Sussex. He was a member of the Sussex Volunteer Fire Department for over thirty-four years. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex, (506-433-1176), where the family will be receiving relatives and friends on Sunday 2-4,7-9 pm. The Funeral Service will be held from Wallace Memorial Chapel on Monday, August 5, 2002 at 2:00 pm. Interment will follow at Kirk Hill Cemetery.
