Obituary of Gary Burgess

Gary Burgess was born at home in Sussex on February 16, 1947; he was the son of Jack and Stella (Cameron) Burgess. He attended Sussex Elementary and Sussex Composite School. He became interested in music at the age of 16 when he decided to play guitar. This was when music became his passion. Gary married at the age of 19 and became Dad to Susan, Andy and Johnnie. Johnnie passed away in 1978 at the age of 7, which was a difficult time for Gary. Later in life, Gary had another daughter Jenny. Gary's career was mostly driving 18 wheelers among various other jobs. He also made a career out of hosting many benefits for people who were suffering from an illness, lost their homes to fire or some other tragedy had touched their lives. He had a heart of gold and was always stepping up to help anyone in need. He loved his community and his community loved him. Gary met Lucy in 1993 in Saint John and they have shared years of joy and happiness with one another. He loved Lucy and would often dedicate songs to her during his shows. Gary's passion for music grew and Lucy supported him as he helped out families in need. He shared his talents and his gifts with young people and gave them confidence to pursue their dreams and passions. When Gary was diagnosed with cancer, he was very strong. He did not want pity and remained humble and positive about his life. He never gave up the fight. Gary will be lovingly remembered by his soul mate Lucy LeBreton; his daughters: Susan Burgess and Ross and Jennie McMillan; his son, Andy Burgess and Lisa McLean; his Stepson, Christopher LeBreton of Mirimachi; four brothers: Jack and Diane of Kingston, Ontario, Douglas and his wife Linda of Riverview, Bob and Kate of Sussex Corner, Laurie and his wife Jeanette of Belleville, Ontario; his sisters: Sandra Dunn and her husband Donnie of Smiths Creek and Carol Baton of Connecticut; his sister-in-law: Valerie Burgess of Kingston and Florence Burgess of Sussex; two granddaughters: Shawna and Abby Burgess; his great grandson Markus Burgess, as well as several nieces and nephews.
