I had some wonderful golf trips with Chris and the boys. Was so fortunate to be with him on his first experience to the Bell Centre to see the Montreal Canadiens. He was just like a kid in a candy store. I will always remember his comments and expressions that made us laugh all weekend. Ralph,Nancy,Michael,Andrea,and wife Becky and son Jack. I was truly sorry to hear about Chris. It was very shocking and disturbing. When Dad told me what had happened on Saturday I was really taken back. Chris was so young and from what I read he was quite active. You wouldn't think his heart would fail. Sometimes we can't figure it out and we are not meant to. Jesus knows the time and the hour for all of us. I didn't know Chris real well. We went to the same church and school together and we worked a couple of summers together for the Works Dept. Mom and Dad were good friends with Ralph and Nancy. I recall one time they were telling me a story about Chris driving the zamboni and how he planned to wear a tuxedo. I think it was if the home team made it to the finals but maybe he wore the tuxedo every game. He was kind of crazy. Anyhow, I am sure you are all hurting and you have plenty of questions for God. He is listening. Here is one quote that I find comfort in, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart; and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths." Proverbs 3:5,6 Also, remember the Footprints in the Sand poem, when the person who was going through the toughest of times in their life and they only saw one set of footprints. Ralph, Nancy and the Carr Family, I was so shocked to hear of Chris. He was one of those very Genuine people that you were always Happy to see and he was Happy to see you as well. I'm very grateful to have known Chris.You raised a very loving and caring son. Just a couple of weeks ago , I took a stick over to Chris to cut down for one of are players helpers during practice. The electric saw wasn't working so he looked all over for the hand saw without complaint. We taked for the longest time and shared some good laughs while looking for the saw. I think it sums up Chris, he did things with a smile on his face and nothing seem to bother him. I didn't realize it would be the last time that I would talk to Chris. Chris was a great friend. We met when he joined the prayer group in Saint John and soon after, the youth ministry team. He gave all he had to those young kids and his life and story touched them in a profound way because there was no pretense. They knew that he was the real deal, from the hands in your pockets swagger to that infectious smile and laugh, he had them from hello.
Chris was a seeker, and even though Ralph and Nancy had given him that beautiful gift of faith growing up, when we all met him, his search for truth and his place in God's plan seemed to be on hyper mode. I had never met anyone with so many questions, and I remember one particular conversation where I encouraged him to try and be still and leave some answers up to God. I thought he might jump out of his chair!
With Chris, what you saw was what you got, and when the youth team put on skits, no-one, hands down, laughed harder than Chris, most times while he was in them.
When I heard the sad news about Chris, I immediately thought back to my wedding when he and Ralph and Nancy had brought the gifts forward during the offertory procession. Chris was a gift to so many of us and we were all so happy when he found Becky and Jack.
I can only imagine that the Lord is being peppered with all of those unanswered questions, and more.
These are a few words from a song that I will be honored to sing at my friend's funeral tomorrow....

I first got to know Chris 5 years ago this past weekend-Feb.22-2008 in Cuba for Frank and Sylvie McShanes wedding.Not only did it not take long to get to know Chris-it did not take long to realize what an honest,caring,and compassionate person he was.And at the end of that week I believe half of the people at the resort felt the same way about Chris.One day Chris got in a conversation at our table with Ray Frennette,former Premier of N.B. who was in the wedding party..I think Chris made more sense about life in N.B. than anyone there..My son Michael worked for Chris about 10 years ago and even now when he comes home from Toronto he always asked about Chris. And lastly I would often see Chris on the Sussex golf course-usually with Ralph and Michael--they would be way ahead waiting for Chris-who would always give me a big smile and a wave..One often hears the expression "comfortable in ones own skin"===And I always think of Chris then..All my condolences to the Carr family---Bill Sear

Working, well... hanging out with, and getting to know Chris over four summers was an absolute pleasure. His passion for life and attitude towards others always brought a smile to my face, as was the case with everyone that knew him. Chris always knew how to brighten my day, whether it was by telling a joke, singing a song by The Tragically Hip, or doing a hilarious impression of James Brown's "It's hot in the hot tub" skit. Chris was the best type of guy, one that put others before himself, and I will always remember him for that.

My first memory of Chris was his first working fire. Almost twenty years ago. Park Street, the fire was discovered by firefighters getting ready to go out on a training run. As the membership gathered at the scene a wide eyed Chris obviously excited ran up to two of us. "I'm new at this, what do you want me to do?"
Chris quickly became part of his volunteer family, and became a firefighter that no one would think twice about entering a burning building with.
Years later, he and I were taking a break during another worker when a young, wide eyed, excited new recruit ran up to us and said, "This is my first call, what am I supposed to do?" as he ran toward his task, Chris looked at me with a grin, "Kind'a wound up isn't he".
Chris has left his mark on all of us with his kindness and his infectious smile.

I first met Chris in Saint John in grade seven and we both moved to Sussex where we became great friends. Chris and I were in Mr. Gilbert's grade eight class which could have been a reality show itself...lol...we had more than our share of laughs. Chris and I spent years together in Tae Kwon Do, endless days skiing and anything else which had fun written all over it. He was almost a daily regular around our house, always showing up with his beaming smile, infectious laugh and warm aura unique to him. Whenever I have had the opportunity to visit Sussex from out west, Chris was always willing to make time so that we could laugh together once again and it was effortless and natural...he was generous and genuine. I last saw Chris this summer when I returned for the '87 reunion and once again, Chris made his way to Ted's so we could hug, laugh, joke and catch up. To Nancy, Ralph, Andrea, Michael, Becky, Jack and all his family, I send my deepest condolences. Chris was an amazing man and a great soul...he lives on in our memories and hearts, forever missed. Chris, I want to thank you for all the times together my friend. You demonstrate a peace and happiness we all can learn from. In a spec of time we will laugh together again. Ralph, Nancy, Mike, Andrea, Becky & Jack..... no words can express my shock and sadness over the passing of Chris. He was an incredible young man and touched so many lives while he was with us. I remember years ago - driving Chris home from my parents place and getting pulled over for the first time. Chris hid in the back seat giggling while Heather and I were terrified we would go to jail. I only got a warning - and Chris told me the crying got me out of a ticket. He never let me forget it. We were house mates on the famous Lowell Street for a while as well. We shared in each others drama of the time and formed a strong bond of friendship during that time. He loved our crazy cat Larry and was always looking out for me, even when I didn't want him to. Once Chris became a friend, he was a friend for life. He lived through so much in his short time here than most people would in 100 years. Regardless of any situation he found himself in, he always landed on his feet, with that huge grin on his face. I know Chris will always be with us and remain in each of our hearts as that bright, shining light. Just like he was when he was with us. My deepest condolences to you all. I have known Chris for years but when i started being at the rink 7 years ago, he was right their backing me up on everything anything. I worked with Chris for two summers at the Town of Sussex Recreation Department and might I just say, Chris made my job a wonderful experience. Whether he was saying or doing silly things or just spacing out on our breaks, he always knew how to make me laugh. I'm very happy to have recorded a few videos of him from this past summer singing some of the songs he loved the most, especially Africa by Toto. Going back to work this summer coming up will never be the same without Chris, but I know wherever he is, he'll be watching down on us all. Rest in Peace Chris! You will be missed by all!
