Bernice Mason was born on Keirstead Mountain on December 8, 1916. She was the daughter of Oliver and Maude (McFarlane) Kelly and was the wife of Joseph E. Mason who passed away in 1985. She was a farmer's wife and could certainly milk the cows and look after the turkeys. Bernice loved her Bible, her Church, knitting, sewing, quilting as well as anything to do with the outdoors and gardening. Bernice will continue to live on in the hearts of her four daughters: Connie Hayes, Louise Cosman and her husband Douglas, Marilyn Phinney and Ann Smit and her husband Karst "Carey"; her sons: Fred and his wife Shirley and John and his wife Dorena; her daughter-in-law Carol Mason; her sister Helen Hatfield: her brothers: Austin Kelly and his wife Darlene and Harris Kelly and his wife Isabelle. Her grandchildren: Warren Hayes and Candise Weston, Debbie Benson and her husband Tony, Sharon Townsend and Blair Drake, Jean Hayes, Danny Hayes and his wife Connie, Everett Hayes and his wife Dale, Thelma Folkins and her husband Cecil, Heather Dalling and her husband Gregg, David Hayes and his wife Erin, Vaughn Cosman and his wife Sarah, Mary Cormier, Gail Cosman and her husband David Feldstein, Valerie Austin and her husband David, Laura Phillips and her husband John, Kathy Mason, Mark Mason, Glen Mason and his wife Trudy, James Phinney and his wife Linda, John Phinney and his wife Ann, Jeff Phinney and his wife Tammy, Joe Mason and his wife Kim, Richard Mason and his wife Wilma, Pat Tops, Cecilia Ward and her husband Kevin, John Mason and his wife Christine, Helena Cain and her husband Larry, Carrie Ketcheson and her husband, Geoff, Shelley Doyle and her husband Sean, Cheryl Mason and Matthew Mason and his wife Stephanie. Her great grandchildren: Tony McMinniman and his wife Bernice, Kevin McMinniman and his wife Tammy, Matthew McMinniman, Scott Benson and his wife Christa, Nathan Benson and his wife Amanda, Andrew Benson, Charity Wark and her husband David, Michelle Gallant and her husband Geoff, Bradley Hayes and his wife Michelle, Crystal Coates and her husband Harry, Carla Hayes and Sean Monahan, Christopher, Emma, Joshua, Mark, Jake, Dax, Devon, Avery, Mark, Sarah, Nathan, Tessa, William, Jamie, Jennifer, Kaitlyn, Jesse, Tarah, Christopher, Emelie, Rachele, Natasha, Kyle, Brandon, Nathaniel, Evan, Abigail, Allan, Malcolm, Rebecca, Robert, Justin, Brittany, Michael, Jessica, Mason, Jake, Kaitlin, Brandon, Madeline, Stone, Robin, Molly, Sam, Sydney, Shane, Kaitlyn, and Hannah. Her great great grandchildren: Taylor, Alexandria, Jordan, Tahlia, Cruz, Nicholas, Austin, Anthony, Victoria, Maddox, Gabriel, Ellie, Mya, Grady, Jaxson, Joseph, Brenna, Spencer, Kennadi, Charlotte, Dahleigha, Addison, Joshua, Katieanne, and Jackson. Her great great great grandchild, Oliver, as well as several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Bernice Ellen Jane Mason passed away peacefully at her home in Carsonville, on Saturday, March 2, 2013 at the age of 96. Bernice is predeceased by her husband; her son Bert, two infant children; three brothers: Ralph, Ashley and Arlington Kelly; three sisters: Olive Amos, Marjorie Mason and Mildred Logan; her sons-in-law Delbert Hayes and Ernest Phinney; her granddaughters Valerie Bernice Hayes and Joanne Mason and her great great granddaughter, Gabrielle McMinniman. Arrangements have been entrusted to the compassionate care of Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Dr. Sussex, (506) 433-1176, where visitation will be held on Monday March 4th from 1-3 and 6-8pm. A service celebrating Bernice's life will be held from Sussex Baptist Church on Tuesday March 5, 2013 at 2:00pm with Pastor Brian Steeves officiating. There will be a time of fellowship with the family immediately following the service. A private family interment will take place at Union Cemetery at the Head of Millstream.
