Obituary of Sarah Margaret Parlee

Sarah Margaret (Mercer) was born in the midst of a thunder and lightning storm in Bloomfield Ridge on February 15, 1939 and was the 13th child of the late Andrew and Annie( Allaby) Mercer. As a child she was nicknamed "Sadie", a name she kept for the remainder of her life. Sadie contracted polio at age three which affected her left leg making it shorter. Since she was limited in her mobility, she started her lifelong enjoyment of music, listening, singing and playing instruments. She enjoyed living on the farm doing chores: milking cows, feeding chickens and gardening. Sadie and Clifford met through family members and during their courtship they enjoyed going for drives to visit each other's families. They were married in March of 1960, living with Clifford's parents while building their own home across the road. Once settled into their own home, they started their family. Wanda was born in 1961 and Eugene was born in 1962. Sadie lived for several years with her brother Wesley and his wife Myrtle. Clifford passed away suddenly in 1975 and after moving to Sussex, she met Leroy Brennan and they kept company for several years until Sadie became ill again. After a brief stay in Belleisle Manor, she moved to Loch Lomond Village in Saint John. This was a big change from growing up on the farm but she made the best of it. She enjoyed meeting new people and getting involved with helping with quilting blocks, pickles and jams, bingo and table top bowling. Sadie's family is very grateful for the wonderful care she received. Sadie will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Wanda Rouse; her son Eugene Parlee and his wife Christine; three grandchildren: Shannon Rouse, Jennifer Parlee and Clifford Parlee; her brother Victor Mercer of Bloomfield; her sister Jean Ackerson and her husband Ron of Williams Lake, BC; her sister-in-laws: Myrtle Mercer and Evelyn McEwen as well as several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Sarah "Sadie" Margaret Parlee of Loch Lommond Village Saint John formerly of Sussex Corner passed away at her residence on March 16, 2013 at the age of 74. Sadie is predeceased by her husband Clifford; her son-in-law Gerald Rouse; her brothers: Thomas, Murray, Elward, Heber, Fred and Wesley and her sisters: Jannie Mercer, Elizabeth (Lizzie) Chestnut, Alice Brayley and Ruth Bettle. Arrangements have been entrusted to the compassionate care of Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex, (506-433-1176) where visitation will be held on Tuesday from 1-3 and 6-8pm. A service celebrating Sadie's life will be held from Wallace Community Chapel on Wednesday, March 20, 2013 at 12:00pm. The interment will take place at Kirk Hill Cemetery.
