Obituary of Leverett George Crowe

Leverett George Crowe was born in Sussex, NB on 108 Nelson Street to Charles and Rosa Crowe. Growing up with his brothers: James, Charles Jr. and Harold, they helped their parents from an early age with the ice business, dozers, gardens and with the oil business. This is where he learned to work with family which continued this throughout his entire life. Leverett graduated from Sussex High School in 1958 and then went on to Moncton Community College in 1960 where he received his Mechanical Technology Certificate. In 1961, he finished with an Automotive Repair Certificate and his Journeyman Certificate Interprovincial and in 1964 he earned his Level 4 Teaching Certificate. Leverett was always doing something so he could take care of his family. While he taught Automotive at Sussex High School from 1964 until 1976, he was also working other jobs. He operated a general repair garage at home, delivered Texaco Oil during the off hours and did burner work for his father and then Imperial Oil. During his years of teaching, he had a few difficult students. These students were told "Go see Mr. Crowe and if he can't do anything, you're out of school." He wouldn't allow them to quit but worked with them to make sure they finished high school. These were the students that were referred to as "his boys" whenever there was trouble. He counted "his boys" as one of his huge accomplishments. Leverett continued to work with the students during his nine years with the school board and never gave up on anyone. He believed education was power and everyone deserved one. He encouraged his grandchildren to get a great education; as to him, this would serve them well. Leverett was involved for many years in different community organizations; such as the Sussex Holstein Club, the Buckley Settlement Grassland, District 18 School Board and the Kings County Region Solid Waste Provisional Committee. Leverett bought his first farm in 1967, starting with grain, then pigs and then building his dairy farm in 1976, which at one point was milking 100 cows on 1100 acres. Lev helped his sons develop B&B Environmental Services Ltd and continued to help them for the next ten years. While doing errands for his sons, he met many people and made many longlasting friendships. Leverett always had kids around to work the farm or friends of the kids. Armin, Claus, Rainar and Mike Kundt who built the farm and were always available if he needed help. Tim Pearson, Josh Oulton, William and Carl Gregg were some of his best friends. Lorie Branscombe and Stacy Devine came to visit in the summer and loved to tease and torment and maybe received a little back. He took great satisfaction and pleasure in raising his grandson BJ of whom he was very proud. Leverett was a son, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, teacher, mentor, leader and friend. What more could he ask for in life but to have everyone dear to him, love him back. Leverett is survived by his wife Jeanie (Dickie); his daughter, Esther Keirstead and her husband Galen; his sons: Bill Crowe and his friend Brenda Lee and Bob Crowe and Tara Olsen; his brothers: Charles and his wife June, Harold and his wife Phyllis and James; his grandchildren: Billy Joe Crowe and his wife She-ra, Stephanie Buxton-Scott and her husband Shawn, Kayla Crowe and Adam Hanlon, Courtney Crowe and Wesley, Matthew Crowe, Kelsey Crowe and Julia Crowe; his great grandson, Daniel; as well as several nieces and nephews.; his great grandson; as well as several nieces and nephews.
