Phyllis and Stephen we were so sorry to hear of Ivy’s passing. Unfortunately we did not know she had become ill again and only found out after her death. She has been a wonderful and dear friend to both of us for many years. We had lost touch with each other for a while so we were really looking forward to reconnecting at the Jaycee reunion in September. Ivy & I graduated from Sussex High School in 1976 - we were classmates in the Grade 12 Phys Ed class and I can still see Ivy looking very sharp in our bright yellow matching warm-up suits that our class wore! To the Doherty Family: Ivy will always be remembered. Upon reflection ... I remember Ivy as a student in grade 11 and 12 hovering in the gym office with Mr. Muscroft chatting about the latest volleyball game. If she wasn’t in class she was definitely in the gym 24/7. In 1976 it was off to UNB... Ivy and her roommates had the some of the best parties which generally included the men’s and women’s sports teams. In 1979 and 1980 I remember our summer jobs when we worked for the Town of Sussex and ran sports programs for kids from Monday to Friday... and of course planned fun filled weekends... what a blast! “Pat ...and Ruth Anne.. You’d remember those days.” After graduating from UNB ...it was no surprise that Ivy applied for the physical education position at Sussex Middle School. She was elated to have an opportunity to work at home in Sussex. Ivy is fondly remembered as a friend and colleague who carved out her own path in life. Generally she was more comfortable leading than following and those that followed her lead excelled. Like many people I learned a lot from Ivy’s determination and “Just do it” attitude. Rest in Peace.

As a friend and colleague there was never a dull moment in Ivy's presence. Cancun was her peaceful haven to play beach volleyball, read books too numerous to count, feed the resort cats, shop a bit, enjoy our meals and the evening clean- up and keep all organized. So others on the beach would not forget her, she nicknamed herself Poison Ivy. I assure you there is a whole community who will be missing her in Cancun in February, therefore again it will be very emotional for us. Our Cancun will be changed for ever as it was the first day Ivy arrived in Cancun 14 years ago! It has been an honour to have been so close to such a positive, energetic woman. We are all richer but broken hearted!

When I lived in Fredericton in the mid-90's, I contacted the local Junior Chamber/Jaycees and decided to join. What prompted that initial call was the fact that my teacher Ms. Doherty and others in Sussex had been members of the organization. I had such a clear recollection of them contributing to the community, but at the same time receiving significant personal benefit from being involved. Membership in the Jaycees impacted my life in countless ways, so I am forever grateful to Ms. Doherty and others who inspired me to join.
