Ivy was born in Sussex on April 4th 1958; she was the daughter of Phyllis B. (Armstrong) and the late Roy Burton Doherty. Ivy was born and brought up in Sussex where she graduated from Sussex Regional High School. Ivy was always involved in her community, school and sports. She loved beach volley ball as well as well as all sports. Ivy continued her education and came back to be a gym teacher having taught all ages her love of sports. She taught for 33 years at the same level. She started at the old Junior high and has been at the Sussex Middle School sinced it opened. Ivy was strong, and kind, patient and loving, she had a quick wit and wasn't shy to share her opinion. She had a voice and was fully prepared to use it, either in school, in the gym or in public. She gave her all in any thing she became involved with. She was a charter member of the Sussex Jaycees, a charter member of the Sussex Cancer Survivor Committee. Ivy will continue to live on in the hearts of her mother, Phyllis Thompson and her brother Steven Doherty both of Sussex, her cats: Ginger and Baby who were her babies; Jeremy, Mike and Kris Hayes and Aarik Wells who were like her own sons; her very close friends Pam Goold, Leslie Hayes, Sandra Wells, Theresa Marriott, Erin Colpitts and Mike McPherson, her family at Goolds Flower Shop: Art, Shari, Karen, Callie and Carol; as well as several aunts, uncles and cousins. Ivy is predeceased by her father Roy Doherty and by her stepfather Amos Thompson. Miss Ivy Rose Doherty of Sussex Corner passed away at the Saint John Regional Hospital on August 22, 2013 at the age of 55. Arrangements have been entrusted to the compassionate care of Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex, (506-433-1176),where visitation will be held on Monday, August 26th from 1-3 and 6-8pm. Life is a journey and Ivy's journey will be celebrated from St. Paul's United Church on Tuesday, August 27, 2013 at 11:00 am. The interment will take place at Kirk Hill Cemetery.
