It was with great sadness I read of Bernie's passing. What a lady she was. As a little girl I remember going with my mother to her home on Stewart Ave. She was Mrs. Yerxa back then but later years when she was a regular at the Tea Room which I operated she became Bernie to me. I fell in love with this dear lady. About three years ago Christmas I took a fruit cake and stopped by to see her. I hadn't seen in a while and wasn't sure if she would remember me. When I went in I said Hi Bernie remember me? She quickly replied of course I remember you Judy, come in and visit. I went that day to be a blessing to a dear senior lady and came away being the one receiving the greater blessing. A great loss to all who knew her. An inspiration to all.

Dear John and Family, We were saddened to read of Bernie's passing and want to extend our condolence. She had such a wonderful community spirit, infectious smile and sense of humour. Although it has been years since we have seen her, we not infrequently remember the time she helped us out at a Country Living Day parade (that wasn't yesterday!) She sat in the back of our Liberally decorated pick-up truck and handed roses to us as we walked alongside and handed them out. Many people who knew Bernie took great delight in calling out to her "Hi Georgie". She just waved and smiled. Happy memories are what keep people forever in our minds, and we have many of her.
