Obituary of Bernardine Yerxa

Bernie Yerxa was born in Waterford on November 30, 1911. She was the daughter of the late Hugh Francis and Catherine Mabel (O'leary) Doherty both of Waterford and the wife of the late Bartholomew W. "Bart" Yerxa of Norton who passed away May 26, 2000. Bernie graduated from Mount Carmel Academy in Saint John as a Business Secretary. She was a member of St. Francis Roman Catholic Church and an active member of the C.W.L where she served as President for two terms. She was a proud, lifetime member of the Liberal Party. Bernie was a passionate player and a founding member of the bridge club. Bernie will continue to live on in the hearts of her children: Bart and his wife Beth of Waterford and John and Elaine of Passekeag, five grandchildren: Shane (Megan), Casey, Michael, Jack and Brooke; three great-grandchildren: Ethan, Jade and Jazmin; as well as several nieces and nephews. Bernie was weeks short of her 102nd birthday; she will be sadly missed and always cherished by her family and friends she enjoyed so much. Mrs. Bernardine Parthenia Yerxa of Sussex passed away at the Sussex Health Centre on October 24, 2013 at the age of 101. Bernie is the last surviving member of her immediate family; she is predeceased by five brothers: Walter, Frank, Nat, Joe and Bill Doherty and five sisters: Margaret Layden, Katherine Fallon, Agnes Fallon, Sr. Pauline Doherty O.L.M and Helen Carroll; two half-sisters: Frances Fulton and Nora Kelly. The family will receive relatives and friends at Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex, (506-433-1176) on Sunday October 27th from 1-3 and 6-8pm. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated from St. Francis Xavier Roman Catholic Church on Monday, October 28, 2013 at 10:00am. The committal will take place at Wards Creek Cemetery immediately following the service. There will be an opportunity to visit with the family in the Church Hall following the committal.
