I was never granted the blessing of knowing Ernest personally, however many years later, in tracking down my family tree, I have discovered Ernest's obituary. Ernest would've been my great uncle and it brought tears to my eyes to read about his life and discover photos of my grandmother (Joan) and discover I may have so many relatives out there! I will continue my search for these relatives now!

I was raised in plumweseep just down the road from ernie and hazel and there kids we were very good friends and was always at gowletts home we would go there right after school and play we would be out skating sliding or just hanging around, they were like us just poor people ,ernie and hazel had a large family so did we but it didn,t matter there were always cookies on the cupboard we always enjoyed getting together ,we played outside till midnight most nights until our parents told us it was time to go home ,for sure we were at the gowlett house more than we were home , they were great people [MISS THE OLD TIMES] they were great

I was very saddened by the news on Tuesday of Ernie’s passing. I immediately thought of Ernie and his huge role within the Legion Command as well as being at the various Legion memorial events ensuring we had the National Anthem played. He was very proud of that function. To be sure, Ernie was one of the most respected members of RCL Branch 20. He will be greatly missed by us all. My sincere sympathy goes out to the Gowlett family in this time of great loss.

Today I telling my Grade One class Mr. Gowlett would be coming tomorrow to talk to them during our annual Remembrance Day service. I was reminding them to listen carefully because Mr. Gowlett's voice is not overly strong. We were very fortunate to have Ernie visit our schools over the years and he will be greatly missed.
