Obituary of Catherine Grace Robertson

Holding the hand of her beloved husband, Catherine Grace (Cooper) Robertson of Sussex, passed away at the Sussex Health Center on February 4, 2014 at the age of 79. Catherine was born on July 13, 1934 in Saint John. She was the daughter of the late Hartley and Ettie May (Cooper) Fanjoy and the beloved wife for 59 years of Leslie Robertson of Sussex. Catherine worked as a florist for Fowler's Flower Shop until she was needed to go and care for her parents. Catherine and Leslie met, after a courtship they were married. Soon after their marriage they moved Catherine's parents in with them and she continued to care for them with Leslie's help. Catherine was most comfortable outside whether it was hunting, fishing or gardening. She would stay out and weed well into the evening. She was very kindhearted and had a very soft spot for dogs. She loved her German Shepherd and treated her like her baby. Catherine was an excellent cook and worked very hard to provide Leslie with the meals he needed to keep his diabetes under control. Catherine was very involved in the communities she lived in. While living in Saint John, she was the Superintendent of the Sunday School. She also taught at the Calvary Temple. In Cambridge-Narrows, she was involved in the Neighborhood Watch Program and worked closely with the RCMP while working with the Citizens on Patrol. She and Leslie made life long friendships during this time. Catherine will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 59 years, Leslie Robertson; her brother-in-law, Ralph Robertson and his wife Lois of Cambridge-Narrows and her sister-in-law, Evelyn Rose Goldsmith and her husband Bill of Hamilton, ON. Catherine is predeceased by her family: Ann Waller, Clarence Cooper, Doris Ring, Charlie Cooper and Betty Rolston, as well as her brother-in-law, Carl Lester Robertson. Arrangements have been entrusted to the compassionate care of Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex, NB (506) 433-1176, from where visitation will be held on Thursday, February 6 from 6-8pm. A Celebration of Catherine's life will be held on Friday, February 7, 2014 at 11:00am from the Wallace Community Chapel. There will be an opportunity to speak with the family immediately following the service. If you are considering making a memorial donation in Catherine's memory, the family has recommended the Living Memorial Fund or the Sussex Health Center-Palliative Care Unit. www.wallacefuneralhome.com
