For those who knew my grand-mother Tabor, she was loving, kind and you could always count on big hug when you needed it. She was a little 'rough around the edges' as they say, but always loved those close to her fiercely. You could hear her before you could see her in any shopping mall, hustling to give you a big hug and kiss and count on there being a large meal when all the family came over for Sunday dinner. My grand-mother took pride in her big family, always making sure we got along and helped each other. She instilled a hard work ethic in all her children and grand-children alike. Many childhood memories were of my cousins and I in my grand-mother's fantastic garden. I remember many times roaming around the garden looking at the flower bushes, laughing and playing with many of their cats and dogs and seeing how happy she was to be with all of us. She took great pride in her garden. My cousins and I used to make potions and perfumes out of the fallen flower petals and grass clippings we found around it, which most time we would get in trouble for. We were soon forgiven as the 'perfume' was always interesting to see the parent's faces as we insisted they wear it. It was always great fun going to our grand-parents' home for the warm welcome you would always get from our grand-mother and when the family was together there was always a new adventure to be had. Even when she was sick my grand-mother was a tough one to beat, no illness to keep her down for any amount of time. Just when we thought the worst she would beat sickness with a vengeance. She had spent many years being ill but always with much fight and ferocity. I remember going to visit my grand-mother when she first went into Kiwanis Nursing Home. She was drinking a juice box and could not quite get a hold of it. Although I attempted to help her she insisted strongly that I let her do this herself. She has shown me to be strong and the face of adversity and make the best out of any situation, to be independent and love fiercely. We will always remember and love her. She is a better place, helping the Lord keep all of his little angels in line.
