"Mr. Leland" was my teacher at Southern Carleton High School, outside of Woodstock. He always carried a small wooden lectern to every class. It got "stolen" one night and ended up being painted pink. The culprits were never discovered, but I suspect it had to be Allen Tapley/Janet McCain. Bill, as we called him outside of school, always had a smile, grin, or laugh for students, when he was off the clock. My prayers are with the family at this time.

My condolences to the Leland family. I have many fond memories of Bill when my brother and I were boys. He was always very kind to us and was always happy to see us. It felt good when an adult besides family paid attention to you when you're young and Bill was always that guy. Sad to hear of his passing.

Dear Ann and Family,
We are very saddened to hear of Bill's passing. I personally have such fond and wonderful memories of our times in Forest Hills and especially Island View Campground. Bill was so kind, caring, creative and funny! I'll never forget those "Games Days" where he devised the most fun and challenging hunts for the children. His jokes around our many bon fires (especially the India joke) were loved by all. Bill holds a special place in my heart and I will never forget his love and care for Mike, Mark, James and Pat. So sorry to hear of Bill's passing. I was a grade 12 Literature student of his in 1965 @SSHS.
I liked his style of teaching-Energetic, interesting, full of fun! Remember one day he came into the classroom and faced the board the whole period while he was lecturing-Learned later that he played hockey the night before and got his front tooth knocked out!!
I knew he was good friends of Allan Casey and always loved Saint Stephen.

Anne and family,
I am very sad to learn of Bill's passing. He was the most entertaining English teacher I ever had! Grade 10 was a lot of fun with him. Later on, I saw his art during a mall showing of local artists and I was quite impressed. RIP Mr Leland.
