Obituary of Florence Eleanor Ross

Flo (Perrett) Ross was born in Saint John on July 7, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Cecil Wallace Perrett of Bristol England and Nellie Irene (Hersey) Perrett of Saint John. Flo had a wonderful childhood, no TV for sure, but a great time of family, games, walks, playing, togetherness, Saturday night baths, treats and comics. The old stores with their sawdust covered floors! Sliding down Portland Street Hill on old cardboard, winter was magical then. Flo graduated in 1948, went to Saint John Vocational School and then worked at the Bank of Nova Scotia, Charlotte Street branch for a period before leaving for Goose Bay, Labrador as a civilian employee for the RCAF. Oh, how things changed and she loved it. There she met Ronald Graham Haynes, lately of the Newfoundland Rangers before Newfoundland confederation with Canada in 1949. They became engaged in 1951 and married on September 12th, 1953. Then followed almost 19 years of married life, short three days, which produced five lovely daughters. Ron died on September 9th, 1972 and it was tough from then on however they all survived after much hardship and many complications. On March 16th, 1974, Flo married John Murdoch Ross and moved to Sussex and later became Secretary of Wallace Funeral Home Ltd. After John's untimely death in 1986 she took the seat of President and General Manager until her retirement in 1994. Flo was brought up and confirmed as a member of the United Church. She changed to the Anglican Faith after her marriage to Ron. Flo has always been connected to the public in some form of service industry or another. She is an affiliated / member of Trinity Anglican Church and a member of the Royal Canadian Legion and a past member of the Eastern Star. Flo enjoyed her career in the funeral industry, reading, traveling, her children and her grandchildren. Flo will live on in the hearts her five daughters; Judy Milner and her husband Graham of Sussex, Sue White and her husband Ronald of Lewisporte, NFLD, Lorie Pyne and her husband Bob of Hamilton, Ontario, Heather Kierstead and her husband Paul of Parlee Brook, Rhonda Haynes and her husband Sherwood DeLong of Sussex, her sister Gladys Reid of ON, 12 grandchildren; Rebecca White, Jason White (Jennifer), Johnathan White, Jennifer Pyne, (Nicklaus), Lonnie Pyne (Sydney) and Michael Pyne (Summer), Graham Haynes, Rylee and Madison Kierstead, Gianna, Ava, and Beckett DeLong; five great grandchildren: Lillian, Henry, Hudson, Adalyn and Fox; Flo is also survived by two step children; Debbie Ross of Calgary, Alberta and Philip Ross of Sussex, as well as several nieces and nephews.
