Obituary of Janet Ann Lutz

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend, who passed away at the Saint John Regional Hospital on March 10th, 2016. Jan was born in Jacquet River, NB on July 27th, 1939, she was the daughter of the late Honourable Raymond Doucett and Ila (Lutes) Doucett. Jan will continue to live on in the hearts of Max, her beloved and devoted husband of 54 years, their four children who were the light of her life: Blair and his wife Mona of Miramichi; Darryl and his wife Karen of Spruce Grove, AB; Neil and his wife Gail of Moncton; and Margie Payne and her husband Donnie of Sussex; her brother, Rayburn Doucett and his wife Della of Jacquet River; her brother-in-law: Edwin Lutz of Eriksdale, Manitoba, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Jan always said her most precious gift from God were her grandchildren: Courtney, Jordan, Josh and Justin Payne, Meagan and Colin Lutz, Sarah and Thomas Lutz, as well as her adopted grandson Daniel Doucett of Edmonton, AB. She was predeceased by her sisters: Margaret Rae Doucett, Betty Beebe, Debbie Doucett and Valerie Lloyd, as well as two infant brothers. Jan grew up in Jacquet River where she graduated High School in 1957; she continued her education in Cambellton where she took a commercial course. Jan worked with McMillian Wholesale General Store and Post Office from 1957-1962. Jan met Max Lutz at a Basket Social in 1960 while he was stationed in Jacquet River with the RCMP. On May 12, 1962 they were wed and moved to Sussex and soon the children started to arrive and by 1973 their family had grown by four. Through Max’s service they were stationed many places throughout New Brunswick including: Sussex, Saint John, Doaktown, Shediac, Oromocto, Hillsborough and finally returning to Sussex. Through their moves Jan was employed with Sears Canada Ltd. both in Moncton and Sussex and at Dorlenes in the old Sussex Mall. Jan was an active member of the Penobsquis Baptist Church and a past member of the Sussex Wesleyan Church. Jan was a terrific cook and nothing gave her more pleasure than to cater to her family and friends. As much as Jan loved her family, she was a devoted Christian; her love for the Lord was paramount. In 1999, Jan was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. Despite many complications, she never wavered from her faith. Though the last few years were a trial, she never complained and was always full of thanks and praise. Arrangements have been entrusted to the compassionate care of Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex, (506-433-1176) where visitation will be held on Sunday from 1-3 and 6-8 pm. A celebration of Jan’s life will be held from Penobsquis Baptist Church on Monday, March 14, 2016 at 11:00 am with Pastor Peter Thomas and Pastor Neville Gosman officiating. There will be a time of fellowship with the family following the service. If you are considering making a loving memorial donation in memory of Jan the family has recommended to the Micheal J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research at www.michaeljfox.org.
